I cant say ive experience the other issues with controls and trucks stalling, but ive played my almost 400 hours on a xbox controller only and not kb+m.
Closest ive had is a truck bumping on a rock or stump in a weird way and send the truck and all its cargo flying across the map and thats both rare and hilarious.
Q. You are driving a car or truck WHAT is wrong with dev's?
A. They are mostly under 30 and only have ever played on a console.
If ppl want a game so they can play with wheels and peddles then SR is not a game for you.
This is probably the main spot where a full manual trans would make a difference, when you're at the top of 3rd but would like to hold there rather than shift up and start fighting back and forth a couple seconds later when you get to the bit of road you can see coming up and will want 3rd for.
Indeed the upshift is hellish too being able to control the shift would make the game a lot better .....I drove for 25 years in all kinds of bush situations and ya shifting up a gear when you simply canot is just a dont do
The Xbox controller uses the left shoulder button for clutch and the right stick for a shifter. If you're coming down a hill in High or Auto and heading back into the mud or river you can hold the clutch, shift to H or L3 and pop the clutch as soon as your momentum slows from the friction of the mud. This keeps your speed and revs up to plow in and then you continue to gear down if needed. I've ground the gears but never seen any transmission damage from shifting.
Only time I touch the kb/mouse is for precise winching when I don't have the patience to go through every available winch point click-click-clicking d-pad to eventually reach the one I need. That's extremely tedious especially with longer ropes and lots of bushes between you and that big tree on the other side of the mud.
I cannot imagine playing this game with kb/mouse and leaving the transmission in Auto. I agree, that would be very boring. Fortunately I have the option to play the game wrong and it's very entertaining, especially co-op mode.
Personally I'd take fixes for some of the games other issues way before worrying about shifting the last 2 gears manually.
Its still "Clunky" doing it this way is all I do the same but does it feel right? NO
Ahh I'd never tried it like that, thanks for sharing. I agree, many other fixes I'd rather see first especially with several options available for shifting. I downshift from Auto to High going up hill all the time, Auto is just as sloppy as cruise control IRL. Speaking of, wouldn't a cruise control be nice when spending 10 minutes in L2 crossing a mud field because it's night and you don't want to haul logs through the woods in the dark to avoid the mud? :)
