No option to choose map you want to join. No option to choose what difficulty or setting you want to join. No option to choose if you want to join people using mods. No option to choose if you want to not join a game with no jobs active. No option to choose if you want to join non active players who are afk.
You want more details?
All of this would require a paid for hosting server service from the developers.
This is not how it works !!!
Cast your mind back to the mid 90s when we had LAN parties, thats how this system works.
definitely dont use crossplay if just PC to PC.
I have never once had an invite fail when joining a fresh session, not once.
you need to have completed the tutorial before you can join co op. This is the point where your own save is created. the tutorial.
Sounds like you should finish the toturial and host the game, because you will need more help than your buddy whois way ahead of you. You will earn money if he is the host but no progression.
Granted, the Multiplayer system is not perfect; however, after well over 1000 hours in Coop alone on 3 different platforms (Epic, Steam, PS4), of which most of those are Cross-platform Coop Sessions, I have not had any major complaints nor have I had any troubles connecting as Host or Guest.
As already pointed out, in order to play Multiplayer each player must have completed the Tutorial and have a Save already in place.
You can use Steam Invite system, but in my experience, I have found that using the Crossplay Code is the best way to connect to a Coop Session. That is what has worked the best for me.
Once you have a Save already in place, you can use that same save to join any Mode of Game Play. Normal Mode can Join a Hard Mode or NewGame+ Mode; and vice versa. Game Modes do not have to be the same in order to play together.
The Host's Game Mode is what sets the rules for the Coop session. No need to worry about it making any changes to your initial settings. Once the Guest leaves the Coop session, their save file will not be affected. It will still be the same as the initial Mode.
The same apples to Mod Maps. The Guest does not have to have the same Mod Map Save file in order to join a Mod Map Coop. They can use any Save file to join any Mod Map, whether it be a Vanilla Save, or another Mod Map Save, and vice versa. You can join a Vanilla Coop using a Mod Map Save.
You can not Host or Join any Public Multiplayer Game Session when using Mods.
If Mods are involved, the Game Mode must be Private and Guest must use the same Mods as the Host. Only exception is Mod Maps. Guests do not have to have the same Mod Map Save to join, but the session must be Private in order for the Host to invite the Guests to join their Mod Map.
As far as only 3 people being able to join a Multiplayer/Coop Session.
This has a lot to do with each players internet connection, mainly the Host.
In this case, I have found that having only one person join at a time sometimes helps, but not always. When this happens it is usually due to the Host's internet not able to handle the bandwidth required.
As already pointed out by PrettyFunkedUp:
Exactly...
This is how Multiplayer/Coop works in SnowRunner. There are no dedicated Servers Hosting SnowRunner. In SnowRunner, the Host is the Server and their internet connection has everything to do with how well the Coop session will work.
Hope this helps clarify any questions about how Multiplayer works in SnowRunner.
shouldve mentioned about the saves.....
Although everyone needs to have completed the tutorial and created their first save, its only the HOSTS save that changes in coop.
all guests get to keep the money and the experience (massive bonus btw) but the progress of their own save remains untouched
Report this directly to Saber. I'm in the process of collecting evidence of this. It would be helpful if more people would report it directly to them.
I really dont see what this will achieve.
as mentioned many many times it totally depends on your ISP and your connection.
eg. some ISPs packet sniff and block P2P, this is why a VPN is needed for those people.
I tend to agree. I am no expert in how ISPs or P2P works, but the times I have seen where only 3 people can join, we have resolved the issue by either using VPN, or in some cases, one of the people using VPN had to turn it off.
Not really sure what the cause is.
I checked with Saber that everything was proper on my side. I nailed down one of those instances while it was happening, and they said they were aware of the issue and asked me to collect more evidence of it happening.
This is also not the first P2P game I've played on this network and with this computer; just the only one where I have ever had issues and they always involve a kick when somebody else joins.
I play on Epic, Steam, and PS4. Mostly on Epic.
The only time I have seen it happen, was either when I was on Steam, or one of the Hosts was on Steam. But always when there were Steam players in the mix and one time when there was an Xbox player in the mix as well. On that occasion, we never did get all 4 players in the game no matter what we tried. We ended up just using the 3 of us that were on PCs.
With that said, I have been in countless sessions where there were 4 players with a mix of Epic, Steam, and PS4 players with no issues. It is on very rare occasions that I ever see Xbox players in the Coop sessions that I have been in.
Not sure how helpful this information is...?
