You can refill maintenance points in hard mode as well, but it costs money to do. It would normally be done at a service yard. (not a gas station) The issue is that they don't HAVE them on most maps. You also can't remove a roof rack or frame addon that contains fuel or spare parts without loosing them. (if you just wanted to refit for a single mission)
One sort of cheaty solution is to join normal mode games with your hard mode save. The lets you play with normal mode rules for that session and you can sell off extra trucks for full price, buy fuel tank frame addons that are full, and recover your vehicle to the garage to get everything repaired and refilled. (and move trucks from other regions for free)
This stuff will then carry back to your hard mode single player game.
Normally you'd need to have voice com with the host to have him switch regions for you.
That works, but that completely defeats the purpose of playing hard mode in the first place. If you're going to add trucks a money, you might as well just play normal mode and save yourself the trouble. Hard mode is intended to be hard.
very true Wreez, thats why having an option of 3rd difficulty would be great - something like Hard Mode Lite - where you can sell all this trailers and semi-trailers at least, to get extra cash - i hate to use this money mod, but normal mode is way too easy, i love the idea to pay for gas, recovering trucks back to garage, or moving them to another region - but, would be nice to make some extra money - like be able to sell trailers and s-trailers, even for the half of the price
I went back to normal mode with custom rules because hard mode is just ridiculous in some cases.
Its no where. I just follow the rules. I don't recover vehicles, I don't get gas from gas stations, since gas is free there, and I wouldn't pay for it in hard mode. I only use gas from trailers I can find on the map.
Don't sell trailers back, once I make a purchase, it's mine. I only buy trailers I need for specific things and can't find on the map (logging trailer, which is required for missions but usually can't just find laying around.) If I need a trailer and there is one on the map some place, I go get it. Same as I would in hard mode, because buying them is too expensive and they can't be returned.
But I still get the benefit of free fuel and repairs when I drive back to the garage, and since the damage in this game seems completely random (destroying my suspension on a paved road) and signs that get jammed in your truck, I find that its reasonable to get free repairs.
And a few other rules I make up. You just have to make up your own rules and follow them. It makes the game harder because I know I can't just recover to the garage so if I get stuck I have to dig myself out, I can't just buy trailers and trucks to use them for a mission, then resell them, but I don't get screwed by other parts (some bugs) of hard mode which make it too frustrating.
