if you think steam isnt getting their cut from those sales then you are mistaken. a publisher can only generate as much keys for their game on steam as permitted by steam (with or without charges)
@ mendel - no one needs epic to sell steam keys. because any game available from both steam and epic cannot be cheaper on epic because of steam EULA.
I honestly have no idea what yea trying to argue. Just saying PC is the platform while the stores are on it. I honestly don't want the 90s PC gaming to come back, it almost died then. That is my only concern. Sure if actual competition kicks up I am all for it as well. I really only use 2.5 stores on PC.
im not trying to argue at all - i just added some info to the mix - that steam does not allow unlimited keys to be generated and sold. they do have full control over this. and they can fine-tune it as they see fit.
No, shouldnt have bought it on epic. Your loss
There’s several instances of games sold on steam that get remade by a different dev/publisher and they either don’t get a discount or it’s paltry.
Take RTW I own it on CD (I have my key) and I own RTW2 and many others on steam, but I don’t qualify for a discount on RTW remastered. People are angry etc. They advertise the remaster on the RTW2 news forum...
I wouldn’t expect a discount from one platform to the next. Only if it was say, EA Games as an independent publisher would I expect some sort of loyalty discount if they resold on steam/epic etc. But it’s not mandatory.
Mass Effect is another prime example. I own them all but Origin is dilly dallying while steam offers a discount if it’s on steam, yet it’s still an EA Origins game. It’s just daft all round.
I think since people on steam never bought it on Epic and steam takes a bigger cut, it has to be more expensive for steam buyers. That’s logical to make up the 30% that steam takes Versus the 18% that Epic take.
That’s that sorted!
Interesting what goes on behind the scenes, eh?
Have a look at this one

Who really cares? Steam take 30% off the Dev, while Epic only take 18%.
It needs to sell a helluva lot more for the dev to make up the steam loss, while steam coins it in
As of November last year, SR had sold 1.5 million copies.

Btw, gabe newell (Valve) hints at more games coming to console.
So you better keep your Eggbox

My bad.
That’s amazing when you think of the size of steam and the fact it has no competition. I did read that steam drops to something like 25% when a game starts making a profit of 10 million. So if your in the CoD league then that’s fine. Everyone else tough
steam takes 30% at start. 24% after 1st milestone and 18% after 2nd milestone.
the milestone figures i forgot. but that info is easily available on the internet.
Not this propaganda you get from Epic where the only way you get actual data is from their pretty poor security, leaked court documents.
