Good progression after Fleetstar F2070A
So I finally reached level 6 after doing almost all of the tasks in Black River and finally unlocked the Allterrain tires. I got all of the upgrades for the Fleetstar but I'm getting a bit tired of this truck and want to try something new but what is a good progression/upgrade for this truck? The Chevy Kodiak C70 is basically on par with the Fleetstar, so it's not really a noticeable improvement.

It doesn't help me to unlock a super expensive truck if I'm stuck with rear wheel drive and no differential lock because I need level 13 or whatever to buy it. What's the next "intended" progression vehicle in this game?

Have you been up to Smithville Dam yet? If not you should explore around there and find the White Western Star 4964 and its upgrades. It's a free truck that you have to repair and then drag back to the garage. I find it a noticeable upgrade over the Fleetstar when its got the upgrades that are around the map. In addition you can accomplish almost anything with one towing the other with the engine on.

I second that advice. Look for the Fixer Upper mission on the map near the dam. The task is difficult, but the WWS is a very capable and versatile truck that can handle almost anything. The AWD and the raised suspension upgrades for it are in Smithville Dam, the diff lock upgrade is in Island Lake, so you may want to send your scouts to explore the area first.

Level 8 gives you offroad tires, look forward to that!

A tip for recovering the White Western Star is to bring a truck down to it with a repair frame add on and get it fully repaired and refueled before you start trying to move it. I managed to drag the WWS back with just a scout truck because it can pretty much get itself through anything on its own when you turn on the engine. You're more or less just leading it with your winch. There were a few spots where I had to do some tricky winching but it can be done.

Many people get the Paystar 5070 after the Fleetstar. The White Western Star is a decent truck too, but you need to find the upgrades for diff lock and awd while the Paystar comes with them.
You'll miss out on a lot of trucks that would help in the early game if you try to finish each map before going on to the next. All of the michigan maps have decent trucks you can find.
The Pacific P12 on Drummond Island is quite popular but only RWD.
The Twinsteer on Island Lake is quite unusual, but only RWD unless you get the Phase 1 DLC or play coop with someone that has it.

Now that I think of it, there's at least 1 good truck on EVERY map of the base game.

Game is designed especially in first region to give out those trucks as progression - both by acquiring them and in their capabilities.

White Western is quite similar to Fleetstar in stats but trades its better offroad capability with a shorter bed which means no crane+trailer.
Twin Steer and the big Pacific are both some kind of beast of their own and not everybody likes them.

Paystar is a somewhat obvious choice to buy...
...but with the anniversary DLC, why not try those 2 trucks for free..? :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

Go to Taymir region and buy Azov, best value for money, althoug a bit slow.

Yep. Bring a late-game truck to the early game, like that won't mess up your difficulty progression.

Given that you may play the levels by design in any order you want, what's the problem ?
Also aren't these trucks level locked + you need money for them ?

Yeah I wouldn't want to ruin my fun by unlocking a super late game truck that I then end up using exclusively for everything, the journey is half the fun in this game. It's also why I haven't bought any dlc yet.

It's a game, you can play it any way you like, I don't have any problem with that.

But since we are sharing advice here, I am happy to point out the consequence of doing as you say. It'll make the game seem easier as it is at first, and because you'll have failed to learn to cope with difficulty, it will then seem more difficult than it is when that difficulty ramps up.
But how you play is a personal choice; just be aware that this strategy probably trades frustration now against frustration later.

Well said.
I've chosen to play the same way, by and large.

I wouldn't say the 64131 is a late game truck. It's a good truck and it's 8WD will make the earlier maps easier, but nobody ends up using it for everything in the mid game. It's low speed and bad turning radius make other trucks too attractive.
It's like having a bulldozer. You don't get stuck as much but you don't want to take it on a long trip.

Still, if you like the challenge that you get from the early american trucks, that's a valid play style too.

Funfact: You don't need to rank up to get all-terrains. The International Paystar is available from the start of the game and has All-Terrains with no rank requirement. Once you finish the tutorial you'll be able to afford one by selling one of the trucks you have.

Buying a russian truck is a crutch choice and if you learn to rely on them, the harder maps (Imandra) will make you pay dearly for failing to learn how to navigate.

Thoughts on the Pacific P12? Currently using a slightly modified (AT tires) for the majority of Michigan and it's performing quite well.

I like the Paystar 5070, but the high rank req for mud and off tires is a bit of a downer, as well as the extreme thirst in hard mode can be a bit of a trouble.

To all late game haters. Azov is not a late game truck. You need to reach level @@ I forget exactly what, google it. Then Taymir is open, just go to the garage and purchase Azov.

If you think Azov is going to ruin everything for you because it's a late game truck, no. It's very slow. For hard missions where I need to drive across the map I put it on a trailer and drive there with another truck. It's really slow.
