Kola Peninsula is EVIL
I would love to see the stats on player completion rates starting with Kola. That set of maps is so evil, I can practically feel the level designer constantly slapping the side of my head, "How about now? How about now?"

With over 250 solo hours into the campaign, I understand challenge. But the Kola maps seem to go out of their way to make you suffer in the worst possible way. Maybe it was an attempt to appease players who thought the base game was too easy, but it's about to drive me away for good. I certainly don't want to buy a Season 2 pass if the maps continue like this.

I think you'll have even more "fun" in Amur. Yukon is no picnic either. Yeah after some time, it turns from fun & adventure to grind. Been there done that.

A bit vague in your description of a bad time, so I'll assume you haven't upgraded your tires.

Starting Kola without mud tires is like walking into a RPG dungeon as LVL0. You'll want to have unlocked the Off Road tires or better yet mud tires before you tackle the snow covered reigions, period. You'll want to ditch the road tires on almost all your trucks asap.
Some of the DLC trucks have them pre-installed, but you can unlock them for whatever trucks you already have with enough EXP

Once you get Mud Tires for your scout or off road tires for your truck, you won't be afraid of anything.

I have almost no problems in Kola because i didn't head in until I had a decent fleet going for me. My biggest problem in Kola is tipping over on those slopes and sunken roads.

I suppose you were addressing the OP, but in my case it wasn't that some particular task was too difficult, I just got bored with the repetitive grind, the slow repetitive traversing with pointless cargo, and the somewhat lousy physics and game mechanics. I'm not sure if that's the OP's case, but it was mine.

with 250 hours you should have acquired the trucks, tires and knowledge to tackle the map. I dunno man maybe take a little break from the game and then return to it after a couple of days.

I've really enjoyed Kola Peninsula so far. It's definitely challenging but I much prefer challenging terrain over all the nonsense generators and having to craft loads in the other DLC maps. The biggest thing that's been helping is whenever I go out to do anything, I drag an Acteon outfitted with a Fuel Tank along for the ride. With service parts on the roof, a fuel tank on the back and the autonomous winch it constantly saves the day.

Oh, I've got the tires and the fleet. And I'm even used to the "minor mistake equals major time penalty" aspect of the game. But the fact that Kola seems so deliberately challenging just makes me stop enjoying the game. And I am playing something else entirely now.

Kola was not bad, I have been using mostly chained tires. I did not feel like it was too hard, just basically Alaska mixed with Yukon. Now, Amur is a whole different beast but, after finally going through the first map, the other two so far have been fair (cosmodrome and cheriaki..something). I will say one thing, if you want to make your life easy, try to find the hidden Zick in Amur, that truck goes anywhere. Also, the Tartarin is a great exploration and support vehicle. I have used it in towing other truck to make it easier.

The Tatarin is great, except if you need to traverse rock or ice. Kola has some nice blockers for my Tatarin.
Flashbaxx Jul 12, 2021 @ 5:25pm
Yeah, Kola introduces icy rock terrain that are nigh-impossible to move across without chains. So the route you plot is equally as important as your tire selection.

Yeah, Irestarted entirely after I did some weird stuff involving kola or imandra. trying to move things over ice and it didnt go well.. was rank 14 or so on that save. So I had the tires, just not really the experience I likely needed with truck selection etc... I loved Kola itself, used a scout to explore most of it. Beautiful place, but I think lack exp kinda shot my enjoyment.

ah yeah, the lovely imandra.

mandatory trailers designed specifically to be bottoming out every 3 feet, flying alien ice sheets bugged to hell, inexplicably indestructible trees, and no ability to put chains on majority of potentially useful vehicles.

then of course my absolute favourite, whole two inches depth of murdersnow(tm) that arbitrarily stop any 17-ton 8-wheel drive soviet diesel vengeance dead in its tracks no matter what. the same whole two inches of snow that irl i'd clear with a lowered 3-series beemer with negative camber on all wheels.

it's not a challenge, it's deliberately trollish ♥♥♥♥ design.

Agreed. I have to conclude that it was meant as a response to all the people that whined about the game being easy once they had a few Russian trucks.

^^^

I know exactly how you feel... Its really pretty, but its so annoying after so many times tipping/sink/crashing that I just want to rage...

Kola Penn. And Amur are both really hard.

Intro map to Amur, you can go out the side of the garage closest to the river instead. Less rage inducing to a degree...

But as far as kola Penn. goes, rescuing the F750 was the most annoying aspect of that map for me.... Took me days...

OMG yes! I'm a completionist and stubbornly just want to finish it, but it became so much "not fun" that I had to stop and take a break. I'm sure I'll be back, once the memories have blurred and the pain isn't so recent...

Yeah, at this point, when a new region comes out, I may wait to spend money on it and ask people who have bought it if it's insanely difficult like Amur and Kola. If it is, I'll have to think long and hard about whether or not I want to even bother.
