How do I install mods in pak files?

I have downloaded some truck mods packed into .pak files. Found some guides telling me that I should copy mods into the initial.pak, so I rip them out of their own .pak and put them in there, but when I do this, 7zip says "not implemented".
Found another guide which says I should just copy the .pak files right into the "client" folder, but this doesn't seem to work.
I don't want to use the in-game mod system because it annoys me that they get randomly disabled because of updates and such. Lost some money already because of my truck updating itself out of existence. Also not every truck I'm interested in is available there.
I have an Epic Games version. Any idea how is this supposed to work?

If you don't entirely know what you are doing, you shouldn't mess with base game files, because that's what you do in that case.

Best advice I can give you is to use winrar. Winrar I'd able to open, edit and repack. pak files by default. You cannot mess things up with winrar as with 7zip or other zipper.

I know there might be some people around that beg to differ so: Yes, it can work with 7zip, often enough it does not work. I released mods, too, and whenever somebody messed up, he didn't use winrar. No issue ever with winrar users - so that's just on a sidenote.

Yeah but the thing is that the mods (trucks) I download are always in a .pak file themselves. I don't think I'm supposed to unpack them tbh

Always read the modders description. Likely the whole initial. pak they uploaded or it's actually a mod you subscribe to. So it's not a mod you install manually. Hard to tell. Could you post an example?

Ah welp... That's where I am out. I'd recommend to use mod.io. No experience with those sites as they mostly use bots to post mods from mod.io anyway, but without the possibility to subscribe to them. There's probably an additional tool necessary like a mod installer.
