Money sources
Just started this game (barely an hour in) and I noticed everything costs money, but at first glance there seems to be a limited amount of sources.

Contracts and these tasks, is that it? Do they run out?

Yes, all mission limited. But, you are given way more money then you need in this game. When you buy and sell stuff, you get all of your money back and fuel and maintenance is free.

I currently have over $300k and more than 12 vehicles. You can acquire free vehicles as you play, as well as, free trailers.

Money is not an abject. The upgrade paths and free upgrades are the key to getting a quality vehicle that is more than adequate for the job.

Early game, you are stuck with inadequate trucks and the game feels very grindy, unless you have played the previous titles and understand how the game works.

Nice. Some of the achievements call for owning every vehicle, will I be able to comfortably do that and randomly experiment with upgrades without googling the "best meta" ?

I am not sure. I don't do steam achievements. But if that specific achievement exists, then it has to be possible. I only own the base game and I'm about halfway through it, and I have no intention of buying any DLC.

Maybe others can be more specific.

As long as you play the normal mode -- yes.

If you play Hard mode you have to pick and choose your fleet more, as you have to buy (are not given) any DLC trucks you own on Steam, and you can only sell trucks/addons for 50% and not 100%.

I personally think hard mode is a lot more fun as it gives a point to fuel and repair trailers (which are much cheaper than garage repairs and fuel) -- but to each their own for sure.

Yeah, I really enjoyed hard mode on MudRunners and Spintires, I just don't think I'm willing to replay a ~100+ hour game on hard because money is scarce and you have to manage it to buy everything? bah

there's mod on money at https://snowrunner.mod.io/
manual installation only;
there're a lot of very useful mods down there, as well: still - manual installation only.
I use couple of them - and they're bloody awesome!

An easily overlooked source of money (at least in easy mode) is selling off all of those trailers that are sitting around. There are a *lot* of them in Michigan.

Can't sell trailers in hard mode.

There's actually one money mod that works from Mod.io in-game, which adds some "fake" vehicles which give you money when you buy them from the truck shop in a garage. It works very well.

There are challenges, or whatever it was called, that can apparently be repeated. No huge income, but income still

Can confirm unless on hard mode challanges are repeatable and you can do forever, on hard it has a set limit. Also you can sell the trucks you don't want you rescue quite a few and not all trucks are that great especially early game you can sell them and buy them back when you can actually put AWD and good tires on them for instance the first highway truck was horrible before they added a unlockable awd upgrade, but you got to go to another map to find that, otherwise your better off selling that truck and using the fleetstar or selling it all for a big russian heavy weight like Azov 64131 or one of their others, they are not the best but available at level 1, and make your starting ones look like crap the Azov 64131 especially can almost do anything stock but go into deep water mud. Trade off is its slow as ♥♥♥♥ and you will hit top gear super fast so on nicer terrain you feel super slow as it hits high rpm to get to its sad max speed.

But i noticed its even better then my bandit on mud, and way better in snow, just sucks horribly in deep water its only time I got winch the damn thing out of a spot or rescue it.

The flip side to this is that it goes slow enough it doesn't seem to pick up much random damage from the far too common rocks on the road, and it's surprisingly efficient.
