Stagger tires in career
I’m curious as to what strategies anyone uses for staggering tires diagonally like the pros do. I’ve had success staggering used softs with my spare hards to get through long stints. I’m interested in mixed weather stages like Monte Carlo. How usable are the snow/ice when you have to drive much of the stage on tarmac to get to the snow? Could staggering snow/ice with hards or wets (if tarmac is wet) make a good result?

I haven't tried career yet, what do you mean by stagger?

Snow + softs: good on tarmac (like snows are also) and on snow you'll get a bit oversteer but better than softs alone (but four snows on Col de Braus is way best option).
Snow + hards: okay on snow but it was horrible on tarmac, massive oversteer and spinning all the time.
Snow + rain: horrible everywhere. Snows are soft with more profile than softs so they should work well in wet conditions (and they do in reality so wet tires aren't available at rally Monte Carlo) but they're nearly undriveable and mixing them with rain tires makes it worse.

So for me snows and combination snows/softs are good. But for the epic stages you need hards. You shouldn't use them together with snows but drive carfully on the snow with non-snow-tires.

In Career mode you have to manage tire use, how many of what type , how many spares you bring and you can put on any combo of tires on any stage.

This is not available in quick play time trials but in a 15 plus stage rally it is a big part of strategy to make sure your car and tires make it to the end. Having two different sets of tires on diagonally is something drivers due to to keep up grip like during a stint of several stages where all you have are the 4 tires you have and the 2 spares you can bring. it is a great addition to career mode.

I will try snow and softs, and try treating snows as wets as well and see how it goes. Thanks!

I used 4 hard tires on both of the epic stages and of course, it rained for the whole length of them. So that was quite the challenge, but I was cautious and got through without hitting anything.

If I had that scenario again, I might try a different tire (either all softs or 2 softs / 2 snow) even though they'd be shot by the end. At least it would be better for most of the stage.
