What am I supposed to do when Royam swats at me?

I'm at the boss fight and I can't figure it out since I'm a dumbass. I've been trying to blink through it with dodge but that doesn't seem to work. Unless I'm timing it wrong?

when he does the "big swipe" you have to be close to him. Wait for the moment, dodge TOWARDS him and he will not hit you. Just try a few more times, there are no fights in this game that you can't win with a few attempts. Remember you can change the difficulty if the fight gets too difficult, but it's not necessary in my opinion

you can dodge (B) through his arms, but timing is important

You're supposed to dodge through his arm when the prompt appears around Even's head. The timing will seem way off but it will work.
