am I understanding the rules right:
What ever number you role, you can pick a card that is that same number, or a card that is a number above or below it? Example, if I role a 2, and I pick a card that is a 1,2,or 3. If I role a 1, I can pick a card that is 0,1,2?

The number you roll is how much dice "energy" you have to work with. If you roll a 2, for example, you can pick two (1) cost cards or one (2) cost card and any zero cost cards in your hand. You lose any cards in your hand you didn't pick after that roll (unless pinned) and the crystals you pick up draw new cards to your hand for the next roll.

Wait the cards you don't pick are gone from the pool and can't come up again for the rest of the game(I mean the one battle game not full game)? I guess that would explain why I sometimes only have one card to pick from when I roll. I thought you couldn't roll until you had a full hand but sometimes I roll and there's just one card.

I haven't been paying too close attention but I'm pretty sure they just get shuffled back into your deck. Pinning them just guarantees they will be in you next hand, without pinning they could be there/could be all new cards.
The reason you only have one or so cards left is because that's all that's left in your deck. Once you spend those the deck should re-shuffle. :fishman:

The reason you only have one or two cards in your deck when you roll is because you haven't collected enough crystals. You need to shoot the crystals from the enemies body and the more crystals you have absorbed, the more cards you get when you roll. I think the max is 5-6 cards.

even early in the game, if you have the "trick" cards (cards that give you more tokens or decrease the cost) you can often get 4 or more points to spend and play many cards at 0 or 1 cost. My favourite strategy at the moment is to use the "crystals" cards to inflict damage without having to use weapons. I prefer to use "state" altering cards (health, speed) and the long distance bow, plus bombs

That could explain it if it works like I though, and it only draws when you have enough cards.

Hmm, that would make sense but I thought it only let you throw the dice when you had enough crystals for a whole deck. Guess I'll have to pay closer attention next time I have time to keep playing. It's possible I'm fat fingering it too soon if it in fact does let you draw it without a whole deck.

you can throw the dice only when your hand is full. You will not always be able to use all cards, especially in the beginning

You add cards to your hand by collecting crystals. You can throw the dice whenever you have at least 1 card in hand (I would double check this but seeing as I have already beat the game I really don't want to have to start over just to confirm it.). The max cards you can have in your hand is 5, and the max cards you can play in one turn is 8 (if you draw all 3 Game Master cards. Unless there are more of them, but I only had 3 by the end of the game.). When you throw the dice you will gain energy equal to the roll. Each card has a cost that will subtract from your energy. When you're done playing cards your energy goes back to 0, every card you played is shuffled into the deck, and every card you didn't play that isn't pinned is also shuffled back into the deck. You can pin cards to keep for the next hand if you have acquired the pins to do so.
