I WAS thinking of picking this up...
...but then I read a lot of Tim Burton comparisons. I hate Tim Burton (since Beetlejuice, anyway). Would that be a problem, or should I take this off my wishlist?

Idno, it's less like Beetlejuice and more like his claymation movies, like corpse bride and nightmare before Christmas. It's got that wonky gothic sort of look to it. It's a really fun game though and the graphics are great. It really looks like you're playing a claymation game. It's also very well optimized- I can run it at a solid 4k 60fps on a laptop with a 2080 super. Personally I would recommend it, it's a lot of fun. You could also watch some gameplay videos and see what you think. Or you could subscribe to EA play for a month for 4.99 and give it a go. There are lots of other awesome games on EA play as well.

I guess the animation/claymation in Burton movies is good, just his directing, writing, and character development that are atrocious. Nightmare... was gorgeous, but an awful movie. Just wondering if the Burton-esque aesthetic goes beyond the look of the game. FWIW, I did like Beetlejuice when it came out (not least bkz it solidified my crush on Wynona Rider).

Honestly I feel like it's mostly the aesthetic. The writing is much better and more whimsical, closer to Alice in Wonderland or Winnie the Pooh lol or something like that idno. The gameplay is surprisingly solid too. It's not an action platformer, there's no jumping, but it's fun to explore and the battles are fun and easy to pick up. The music and voice acting are really well done too.

I'd just get EA play and try it out. There's a lot of good games on there including this one and it's only 5 bucks a month or 30 bucks for a whole year. Just search EA play in the store and you'll see what I mean. Dead Space series, Dragon Age games, Star Wars games. That's what I'm playing it on. Not trying to advertise for them or anything but imo it's definitely worth the price.

The game is great. Has a 'Similar' style to Tim Burton's claymation, but this game is its own story and is unique is most ways. The story is fun and keeps you interested in going.

I recommend it, even with your dislike for Tim Burton's later works.
