BRINK Traveler

BRINK Traveler

Game no longer launches in Vr, only in 2D
Steam version used to work fine a few months ago. Tried launching from both the VD menu and the Steam menu but they both close the window in 2 seconds. Tried using both Oculus and SteamVR as the OpenXR runtime, neither work. Using the earlyaccess build.

EDIT: I finally fixed Brink on SteamVR! I realised it was OpenXR that was preventing the game from launching as some other games also crash on startup if I change settings (particularly OpenFSR), however I don't think remember changing any settings in Brink when it stopped working or I would've realised. To fix it just open the OpenXR toolkit app and either untick Brink to disable it, or enable safe mode and delete all settings in game. Now I can launch Brink with or without OpenXR, although I've left all OpenXR settings on default this time.

Hmmm, no changes were made on our end recently. Have you tired switching to the official release channel instead of early access to see if that works? Anything else that may have changed in your setup? Which headset are you using btw?

I've updated my drivers to 546.01, using the official release channel, launching from VD and steam but both quit upon launch. It last worked on Quest2 a few months ago, the only change is I'm using a Quest3 now.

I'm having the same issue, but I am using a Rift S. Note: I also own BRINK Traveler on the Oculus / Meta PCVR Store, and there it launches and plays fine in VR (except the multiplayer doesn't connect. I was hoping the Steam version has working multiplayer, but now I can't even test this due to the 2D issue).
AFAIK I am using the official release channel (I don't even see any other versions when I look at game > Properties > Betas)

Looking into this currently... maybe something's changed in SteamVR with a recent update, but we haven't changed anything on our side since the v1.3.0 update earlier this year - so it's strange. We do have a new steam build almost ready for release which I'll be pushing to the beta channel shortly.

Kilotesla - are you also using Virtual Desktop by chance?

We'll get it sorted, thanks for your patience and reporting!

Thanks for replying. No, I don't use Virtual Desktop, just the Oculus PC App (SteamVR is not even running).

Could you please try this:
- Connect to your PC via the Oculus PC App and Questlink / Airlink
- Start Steam VR
- Launch BRINK Traveler from within Steam VR.

Does that launch the app in the correct VR mode? Thanks!

I tried launching BRINK Traveler from within Steam VR, and again it only launched in 2D.
Note: I just use my Rift S with the default cable and the Oculus PC App. Since it's not a Quest, I don't need Questlink/Airlink.

Got it, and in your Oculus app's settings, what is your OpenXR runtime set to?

OpenXR runtime is set to Oculus, same as on your Screenshot.

Hello all together,

want to inform you, that I have the same Problem now!
Cant launch Brink Travelers!

The only thing that's changed is my new Quest 3 (and all the new Oculus/Meta settings in my PC). Q3 is sometimes connected via Steam Link but it doesent matter. If I use my Vive Pro directly, Brink App won't start anymore!
Hope you can find the issue.

Thanks für your active support.
Michael

By the way: OpenXR-Runtime is the Active XR-Runtime in my Oculus App!

Just noticed the same issue. However only if I'm using the new Steam Link app on the Quest 3. If I'm using the Oculus Link instead it is working fine.

Hey Rada-X, confirm! It launches over Quest Link but not with Steam Link (and also not native in SteamVR and Vive Pro)
Thanks a lot!

So we're trying to narrow down what might be causing this, but from my current findings:

If I use new Steam Link app on my Quest to wirelessly connect to my PC, and have SteamVR set as my OpenXR runtime in the SteamVR settings, then the app correctly runs in VR mode when I launch it from SteamVR home.

Could you confirm if that works for you? Seems like some Oculus and SteamVR OpenXR runtimes are fighting each other for control depending on which headset / connection technology you're using. We'll try to get a beta build prepared which will hopefully solve this issue once and for all! Thanks for your help!

Hey guys, could you please restart Steam, launch BRINK Traveler again selecting the "Launch Beta Build in OpenXR Mode" option? Does it launch in VR now? Thanks for your help and patience on this!
