Rogue Command

Rogue Command

Some first impressions
Very much enjoying the game, I have experience with a lot of RTS games, especially way too many hours in SC2 co-op, and I love the idea of a roguelike RTS.

The tutorials were fine for a veteran, they didn't get in the way at all, how I like it. It did seem like they stopped after building units, I wasn't exactly sure what the objective was when the tutorials ended, but it was pretty easy to figure out.

Upgrades feel pretty good. I wish I could replace them on units. Very cool customization. Love choosing units and building strategies around them.

Unit feedback is a bit poor, I would say. There's not much sound or response from issuing orders, some snappy, clicking or subtle beep sounds would help a lot there.

Game is actually way too easy for me, after two runs, there was only one mission where I felt in danger, where my base was dropped next to enemy buildings and units began spawning immediately. It was fun! The rest of the missions have been way too easy for me, personally. Perhaps I got lucky with my choices. I was looking for a difficulty option but didn't see anything. Hoping there are some opt-in difficulty modifiers that unlock later in the game or something, more risk vs reward kinda stuff?

Overall I'm having a lot of fun so far and looking forward to playing more

A QOL Wishlist:
- Holding shift to place down multiple buildings without re-selecting them
- Showing queued orders (lines between destinations)
- Issuing attack move on the minimap
- A button to select all harvesters (since they have a very important active ability)
- A button to select all turrets might also be nice, since they also have active abilities that are often global, or hotkeys/buttons on-screen for their abilities once they are built, feels weird to assign them to a group, or is that just me?
- Ctrl+L Clicking a friendly unit to select all units of that type, instead of friendly fire, (same as double click, double clicking can be difficult when units are moving around a lot)
- Mouse-over tool-tips for map doodads that have a purpose, like crystals that drop from rocks, currently seems you have to select them and open the card.
- Better AI pathfinding in regards to melee. I saw about 10 enemy melee units stacked up on a turret, but only one of them in the front was actually hitting it, the rest were filed behind it in a cone-shape waiting their turn, it was very silly
- Dynamic difficulty options, perhaps choosing between a set of types/difficulties/enemy compositions for the next mission if you find you're having an easy or difficult run for different rewards

Also, do the enemy scouts do anything? I was getting the impression that they summon units if they get back to their base or something.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write down your thoughts.

The melee behavior is actually something we are working on right now, since it also affects our new specialist.

Difficulty ramps up with the ascensions. Every time you beat a run, you unlock the next ascension with a new boss. (we need to make that more clear) My sweet spot is around Ascenion 7 or 8 probably. 10 is currently the highest.

Most of the QoL things you mentioned are already on our radar and we hope to get through all those before our 1.0 release.

We are actually currently working on a way to make our plans / roadmap / some kind of FAQ thing more accessible. Currently it is mostly all spread over different threads here and in our discord.

Glad you are enjoying the game overall.

Ooh yeah, didn't even notice the difficulty on the bottom. Played another round, the third difficulty definitely engaged me more!

A couple more notes:
- Deployed blockade tanks aren't selected as units (drag select, F2) and aren't affected by the support tank ability. Not sure if intended, had to undeploy to throw a heal on them and deploy again. I had the problem where I would accidentally deploy all of my tanks as they were marching across the map and then had to manually go find them. (I need to stop using F2 so much.) I love siege tanks though, so this is a new favorite unit.

- Are drops one-time use? I seem to lose them sometimes but not others.
- Hotkeys aren't rebindable, hope that's coming soon, I use a half-keyboard for gaming so some of the defaults aren't available to me

Keep up the good work
The difficulty ramps pretty heavy currently on ascension 6.x and the maps have gotten decently hard with completing so id say run a few more rounds and see how much harder it gets because i was feeling the same way the first few runs were super easy and im struggling to finish a run fully if my build doesnt work well together and/or i have a slight oopsie in a round.. very much enjoying this game like a lot. this game feels similar to pacific drive with its just not like any other game which makes it very unique

I've noticed this too and forgot to mention it. My assumption is that they become structures when deployed.

Most are reuseable, but the ones deemed most powerful are one time use. If you mouse over the drop and read the info, it'll tell you.

Am I crazy or are the hotkeys not rebindable? I click on them and nothing happens

EDIT: OKAY yeah I'm blind and missed the dropdown to enable customizing them, lol
