And if Tatem were to "Let the community do it for them"
Then this game.......WILL........end up becoming a dead husk all over again, because most people want the devs to update the game.
Also I've found that MOST other games that have mod support also has a HUGE player-base that goes along with that, but that's not the case with Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunt, it's just a small pocket in comparison.
So what does that mean you may ask?
That means that even if the devs were to release mod support for this game, MOST of the mods are going to be dull and boring, because the support just isn't there YET.
I"m glad AF I didn't pay for the CDH (free for me, since I own the original CDH-Reborn on Steam). Everything is locked out, no answers from DEVs as to possibly considering unlocking all areas and weapons at the outset for those like me who don't want a challenge and want to free-range hunt on all locations. TOo small a reward for killing the ONE steg that's free at the outset in the ONE location with the ONE low-powered weapon available, leading to having to spend HOURS to unlock other locations.
No discernable grfx improvements from CDH-Reborn that I can see. island is bereft of life save for a couple of stegs and a couple of little dinos running around that don't score you any points if you take THEM down. SOme plants, boulders and/or rocks hover in the air above the ground. Grass moves but trees are all stationary.
So: glad the game was free, and DLC money wasted (those free stock-o-saurs from the DLC kill you instantly, find you as soon as you fire your stock-o-weapon at the Stock-o-stego-saurus, even if you're standing high above them).
Game would be worth it if ALL locations were unlocked to give beginners at least SOME variety, and value for the money if they paid for this game.
The Carnivores community is built around modding. People want the devs to update and fix the game because that's the bare minimum of what game developers should do. That doesn't mean we can't also get mod support at the same time. Carnivores as a franchise is still alive because of modding and the fact that mods have allowed the original Carnivores games to still bring in new players decades after their release. Part of the reason Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunt has less players than those decade olds games is because of the fact that such a crucial part of the Carnivores community; mods, are not supported for it. And about that last point? Think of the Carnivores mods that exist right now and then tell me how those would be dull and boring on Dinosaur Hunt, with realistic graphics and being easier to access and use.
The Stegosaurus is not a stock model. It was an original design made by Tatem for Reborn. Same goes for the guns. Only the Giga and Carno are stock models. Also, I disagree that the maps should all be available from the get go. That sort of takes away the whole point of game progression.
What you are suggesting is very good for the people that buy the game, but it's terrible for the people that developed the game.
Because there is no money to be gained by doing that, and it's not profitable. Especially since this game JUST came out not to long ago, AND ON TOP OF THAT, it's free for anybody who already had Reborn. Sure, Mod support, may help bring in new players. But the base/vanilla game has to have enough positive reviews, in order for that to work.
Lets say for the sake of argument that you're right. And that the mods that exist RIGHT NOW would be awesome in this game.....................Well.............in that case.........NOBODY is going to buy any future DLC, because what would be the point, since people can just create their own unofficial content using mods.
That's a waste of time and money, on the devs part. No revenue, means no official future updates and bug fixes, which in turn means this game gets abandoned also.
It's like saying
"I support Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunt..............BUT NOT IF I HAVE TO SPEND AN EXTRA 4 DOLLARS!" *smh*
Stock models are something that goes with game engine and these aren't.
As I replied before, we do not plan to add modding support in forseable future
Addition of such feature isn't easy job and taking in count how many hours need to be spend on its work means that we won't be able do anything else on the game for a half a year or year and in result we will make happy few modding enthusiasts while whole community on all platforms (not only Steam) won't see even bug fixes.
P.S. Please, do not to take it personally, but it seems like you have no idea what is amount of resources is needed to make what you want happen
This game (NOT Reborn) made by few people from our company. Steam release and DLC release were prepared and released during time of war.
Carnivores is not even our IP, we work on it under license. Our IP is Mutant Football League and that's where majority of team is.
We are not charity, we need to pay salaries to those employees which are working on this game. Once we release content that won't be able to finance future development and in the

My opinion, which you respectfully disagreed with, was, as I stated in my post above:
---It's FINE if someone wants the "challenge of game progression." But all areas should have been opened up at the outset for someone who just wants to free range explore all the areas. As an OPTION.
So the more hardcore gamers (and certainly the younger gamers who have unlimited time on their hands) would have their game progression (etc) available if they so choose.....AND the older, less dextrous gamers (with LESS time on their hands and who can't play games 24-7) would have THEIR free range option available. Pretty simple, and I'm sure it could have been done with game-difficulty-options ("easy", "hard", etc)
Going past how ridiculous the suggestion that adding modding support would take the entire team a year, what on earth is the team doing besides that? You've already stated that the *best case* scenario is that there won't even be any bug fixes for "a while", and if they're not working on that, then what's stopping them from mod support?
If the answer is "they are working on Mutant Football League instead" then its clear this game and DLC was just released in hopes of gaining another quick buck from the community, and will be abandoned yet again.
I can't wait for you guys to try to sell us Carnivores HD: Hunt Reborn in a year!
Hopefully Observer mode gets added to the game. In some of the other games when you enable observer mode you get to visit all of the maps and select any dinosaurs. Although you still need to unlock those normally to hunt on the maps or hunt and collect those dinosaurs.
So you don't want to add modding because you can't gain an immediate profit from it. In fact: you're worried people might not buy your DLC you bought off an asset store because you know modders will do better. So it looks like I was 100% right about this being an attempt to gain another quick buck off the same product being released again and again.
Genuine thanks for just admitting to it. It was pretty obvious that the bare minimum of effort is being done for this game and any profit gained from it is just going to MFL instead, but it's good to see some transparency for once.
It remains a ridiculous ETA that appears to have no basis in reality. The real reason is, as you have previously stated, you can't make a short term immediate profit off of it, so you'd rather buy more stock off the asset store and sell it as a new product instead.
But all of that aside, if you guys sincerely care about the future of this game, then I'd apologize if you laid out an actual dev timeframe of what the future of this game will be, and stuck to it. Because right now, it looks like the future is at best some more store bought DLC, and at worst nothing at all.
This sounds more like you don't want to add modding support because the Carnivores modders would be the biggest threat to your cash cow since they can easily make a model that's going to be better than any Unity Asset models that your dev teams can simply purchase from the Unity Asset Store, throw it into the game, and sell it for $4 to $5. Even from the causal player, they would pick the fan-made FREE mod content over the 'official' overpriced DLC that's just thrown into the game.
And I'm saying thrown in because players are literally given the Carnotaurus and Giganotosaurus for free at the start. And more importantly. there are already numerous issues with the animations including the poorly rigged hunter getting eaten by Giganotosaurus, where you can see the hunter clip through the Giganotosaurus. But hey, nothing says professional like selling rushed DLC for an already unfinished game.
Given you have stated, "We never said that Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunt is our top priority. MFL was and is our main game, there lies our priority," clearly shows that you're only using Carnivores to be a cash cow since no one is buying your football game with a dozen DLCs that are just reskins and you're itching for money.
Anyways, good luck with your main priority that only has 3 people playing it. Go sport ball!
