Possible Features?
Hey firstly wanna say loving it so far alot of fun just making maps, couple of things I personally would like to see.

Could we get a way of increasing the map size at all, would love to do some world maps for my dnd games.

Secondly a grid overlay option would be amazing to show the hexs on the ocean, planning on using the map to show the players where things are and they can plan trips. So 1 hex would be 1 day travel.

Hi, I do plan to increase the map size. I just have to sort out some more performance issues to make everything run better. There are several things that I know I need to do to improve the performance but I'm trying to balance it with new features. I might increase the map size just and just allow players to make larger maps at the cost of performance until I have fixed it.

The grid is also on the todo list here: https://trello.com/b/s3fBTBti/atlas-architect-development
I'm planning on balancing fun updates for me with what the community wants and I think this one will be added in a few updates (don't know when exactly).

Thanks for backing the kick starter btw! :)

I was wondering about this myself I just stumbled across this on my discovery queue, something I like to do on a daily basis, because you just never know and one of the reviewers for this say: (Naughty Shark)

"(1) The map has unclear borders. That is to say, the space that you have to build your map is fairly limited. I realised this halfway through, when my map cut off and I couldn't place anymore platforms. I had to restart the map entirely and relocate it slightly higher, so that it could fit my continent. This might be an inconvenience for anybody looking to build in-depth world maps, though the game gives you multiples slots to save multiple maps, so you might have to stick with making them separately."

I understand this is still early in development but that's a little off putting for me at the moment. You say "your imagination is your only limit" in the description, when there is an actual limit in the software to what you can do. lol

I know it may seem I am very negative and taking this literally, and I am not meaning to, I am sure this is something you will address in the future and it may not be something until a little along the line and I respect that. When this "limit" has been addressed then yeah I may have a proper go, As I like to create big maps.

Is this made in Unity?
If so, there's two things I would love:

Sell it on the asset store so I can really easily make the lands for a game.
or
Export my created map as a Unity project or asset pack so I could then populate it and turn it into a game.

I know that wasn't what you had in mind when you started your project, but pretty please with sugar on . . .

As @ShadowApocalypse said, I too would love to use this for making world maps for D&D!!
What is the map size limit (how many hexes across and up)?
Benjiboy Dec 22, 2020 @ 5:44am
Bugger. It's not Unity based. Ho hum.

Yeah, there are unfortunately some limitations that are outside of your imagination. I do have plans on making the grid much larger or simply just allow a dynamically created grid. There are just so many features to do and so little time. The current max is a little more than 1000 hexagons. Which is about 32x32 hexagons. I agree that this isn't enough and plan to increase it.

And you are correct Benjiboy, it's made in Unreal Engine :)

Seconding the OP, those features would be great. Looking super forward to a map size increase, was also in the midst of creating a D&D map when this hit me. Thanks for the work you're putting into this, very cool thing you've got here.

Thanks for posting the link to your feature list. This is some really beautiful work, and I can't wait for more quality of life features to be added. Is there a place for suggesting features?
Don Dec 23, 2020 @ 1:58pm
You can post them here in the steam forums or on the subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/AtlasArchitect/, email me at danial@rashidiinteractive.com or write to me on twitter @danialrashidi
I think I've responded to all feature suggestions anyone posted (unless I missed one) with info about planned features or if I add their suggestion to the road map :)

Thanks! I'm really enjoying this so far. As an exercise, I'm trying to recreate the DnD map of the Sword Coast around Phandalin, and the hex orientation is offset by 30 degrees. It might be useful to rotate half as much at a time. It might also be handy to have some part of the interface that tells me what tile type I currently have selected, but I'm getting used to right clicking to go back down to water when I lay the wrong tile.

it would be cool if we could get some animals, to populate maps, but it's your game and your choice
Don Dec 25, 2020 @ 6:54am
Oh man! I completely forgot to add that to the road map. I have a whole section in my own plan called "Living world" which focuses on adding elements that make the world feel alive. I have a bunch of animal ideas and other stuff as well. Adding it to the public road map now. Thanks!

I have a little follow up on my comment. The free camera that just got added is a little fiddly, but does what I need it to do. Thanks!
I also had the feeling that the canvas we had to work with was a little small, but I found out that it only felt that way to me because I started building at the center and worked until I crashed into an edge. I actually traced out the invisible perimeter of the map, and it's kind of huge. It's about enough to fill six full screens if the map is rotated 30 degrees.

Edit on that last comment - I didn't have it zoomed all the way out. At full zoom out it's still two full 16:9 screens, and at that size the hexes are tiny. Still huge!
