Okay, I can understand that. Shows you are much better than me at math.
I've almost completed the game and also gone out on some specific runs to get the stuff required - particularly the thermolite crystals - but never quite got there so whether it's this playthrough or maybe a future replay I try to get enough stuff to build the Turbolight we'll see.
Over the weekend I took a slightly different turn and started scrapping lots of lead, those sodium lights, grabbing chemicals and other "rarer" stuff to beef up my car and have been coming back from runs in (mostly) better shape. Before that I took the view as long as I got back it was fine. Now I'm running with the standard engine, lead panelling at the front, lead doors at the front, and shielded (or whatever they're called) doors & panels on the back of the car.
I find I can avoid most stuff but often I just hit the power and blast straight through radiation.
Extra battery on one back seat, XL fuel tank on the other. On one side I have the wind turbine & storage. On the other I have the hydro generator & fuel synth. On the roof 2x storage, on the front the LIM emitter. I might not run out of fuel or power anytime soon but the car probably weighs ten tons, I'm surprised it can drive uphill haha.
Yeah the original engine does seem pretty bulletproof. Even with panels missing and the storm closing in while driving through stuff you really should drive around I've only had to repair it (using putty) once during my entire time with the game and even then it was something like 75% good.
I was thinking what is the replay value for me and its going to be customisation, trying different engines, finding different ways of doing things. What will probably happen is I'll play other things then one day think "I need to go for a drive"
Base engine is the most reliable, Turbo is the best between the other two "high end" upgrades that is actually manageable. AMP is by far the worst I have seen because it consumes too much power, even when I had 2 batteries for the back and a hydro+turbine side mounts. Oddly enough, the AMP was the most reliable engine when conditions were hazardous. Problem is when you're on low battery, you need to find a place to stop and let the battery charge itself when its windy or raining.
Turbolite is best tbh
I think the problem is that you are using a mixture of generation methods. If you use 2+ turbines you can keep the battery charge up while moving at a steady pace. With enough you can also use the lights and radiation shield and potentially having the LIM shield activate.
Secondly it reduces your reliance on correct tires, with the base engine you may struggle off road with summer tires, or your acceleration stinks on road with off-road sets. But if you have a better engine you can make up for the lack of traction with raw power.
