The game offers you a lim-barrier or something like that. There are two bumpers, one of them definitely gives you protection from abductors.
You can also distract them with flares.
In a game with standard difficulty settings, this is realistic.
If you have a vacuum on hand, you can grab it out of the field without having to actually jump into the field to collect the thing.
Bolt Bunnies also work, and you can technically do it with Spark Towers but it's a pain. The Spark Tower's attack will knock the Goldshell away, so for it to consistently work, you have to place the goldshell between the tower and one of the plasma generators to trap it in the beam.
If I ever get lucky enough to run into a Pacemaker with one on hand, I'll report my findings.
There is water in the area where you come in the zone at the begining of the game
