It says there are 3 gateways and my anchor energy is basically at max, but there's no gateways on the map ?

You cannot. You will have to abandon the run. Next time when planning a route, make sure your last zone is one that has a blue number next to it on the route map.

But it literally says that there's supposed to be gateways on the map. It's a very confusing mechanic.

And if I just die or abandon, I basically lose everything ?
if you go into gameplay settings, you can disable loss on death/abandon.

I don't really like to do this, but I guess I'll have to if the game is gonna play it like that and basically cancels 2 hours of gameplay whenever it feels like it.

Even when I go back to the route planning after abandoning, it still says that there are gateways and not that it's a dead end.

It really is a weird mechanic. But anyway, thanks for taking the time. :ojigi:
What's interesting to me, and I'm not an expert at this, is that the 2nd screen shot you took literally says, under Junction Features,

"Exit Gateway: With enough Anchor Energy, you can summon a gateway."

I don't know what that means or if/how you can summon a gateway, but maybe that's the key there. You seem to be loaded with Anchor Energy.

Yes, that's exactly why it's so confusing to me. I tried to see if I could spawn a gateway other than the only way I know of (which is just opening the ones on the map when you're in the correct range) but couldn't find anything.

I read online that sometimes there are "dead ends" which I haven't spotted yet in my playthrough. I wouldn't be bothered if that was a dead end as it would basically be my fault for not paying attention, but here the game told me I could escape even though I couldn't.

It could be a bug. Normally, there is always a clear warning for dead ends. But since the update, it looks like some information are displayed wrong. Just checked a few of the areas on my map which don't have a blue number on the map. First info page always says it has an exit, but the second page says it doesn't.

Temporary workaround: Always also check the 2nd info page about the area on the map. There, it will say whether there is a stable exit or not.

If you have Windows, in your Appdata folder you should have backups of your last few saves (every time you enter a new area during your drive, it automatically saves). There, you can delete your current save and rename the save backup into the new current one. Make sure to choose the one of the previous area, the one right before you entered the dead-end area. The date/timestamps should help you with identifying it. - Just be careful with Steam Cloud. It could mess it up.

AppData\Local\PenDriverPro\Saved\SaveGames <--- that's the exact path within the appdata folder.

Thanks for the tip and the save trick, I'll be sure to do that.

Worst part is the abandon run thing says the car is unscathed, you just lose most items but when i abandoned i lost 2 doors, 3 panels and the xl roof storage. I genuinely wish i'd stopped playing the game when finished the main story, this has severely dampened my opinion of the game.
What happens if you just kill the task in taskmanager as opposed to quitting the game? Wouldn't the last save be at the beginning of the inescapable junction? Or, perhaps, there is a chance that it is randomly generated and an exit may be there on a reload?

I moved on so can't try it anymore, but I will if I end up in the same situation again.

It will just load the beginning of the map again, which will be the same since these characteristics are tied to the "run" generation itself.

I think the problem is they expected it to function with expeditions only (which only have 1 exit gateway junction, at which point the information displayed works correctly) and they didn't check whether the display works for the normal mode (since you can have.

Also @OP you probably planned to go to the F5 junction in the second screenshot and you didn't take the path it gave you (which should have been fine), so i would report the bug that the highway beside it didn't have any exit roads towards the F5 junction (like it should have according to your second screenshot).

In general i would keep recommending anyone to check the details page instead of the features page. The details page seems to work normally.

I would also need to test if the warning sound and message appear again after going to an end junction with no stable exit (again it shouldn't have given you a warning in this case, since you should have been able to go right from the highway junction towards the F5 junction).

No blue number next to the junction name means no gateway
Also its not a scanned junction so thats also a clue that you shouldnt go there. Stay on the scanned path and you will never go to a junction you cant get home from.

Well funny, I ran into a different problem now.

First problem is that the game tells me there's 3 gateways, but only 2 show up. The second is that on this map, you have to craft the Lim shield to go on the other side, but all the gateways are on the other side and I can't craft the shield yet, meaning I'm basically softlocked and has to abandon again.

This gateway system is very, very poorly done and you get stuck way too easily.

It was fine before the latest update seems to have completely broken the map and other things. It's why I rolled the game back.
