Unless you're planning to be playing this game for weeks on weeks of pure playtime, doing this isn't necessary. As said it has plenty of fuel to get you through the entire game multiple times AND there's a second one just outside you can use that's also full.
It's not really needed besides gating the experimental charging station, which is itself only useful if you're using big battery loads, but it does make refueling faster and lets you save a bit of time. It's not like a small increase its like 3x fueling speed over the basic one.
