Was tired last night and put the computer into sleep mode with the game running and paused.
Guess what?

It worked! I was able to bring it out of sleep and keep playing from where I was. I'm only speaking on behalf of my own system, I have no idea how yours will react (maybe test it first?)

My main issue with leaving the game paused while I had to go do other stuff (or go to sleep) is the 500 watts my system is constantly pulling during gaming. In sleep mode, it only draws 23 watts. There was some strange behavior with the scaling and I had to change back and forth between fullscreen and borderless window (again, going to vary with your settings) to get it right, but I was able to finish the zone and get back to the garage after waking from sleep with pretty much no problem.

I told myself this wasn't going to work, but I guess I was wrong. Windows has come a long way.

Obviously this is a stopgap for desperate times, but after seeing how long it took me to actually finish the run, I'm glad I went ahead and tried it.

This makes sense, the computer saves the contents of the ram and goes into idle mode. It should work with everyones pc, provided they don't have a specific hardware limitation that prevents them from using sleep

Steam implementing a save/resume feature for all games would be so nice tbh. I know it would take a lot of server space though but maybe there's a way they can have it where the saved states are stored locally instead.
In over 70 hours, I have had only one crash, and that was loading all of the materials in the underground storage. I still have not found the limit on how much it stores, but if you move too much too fast, it seems to freeze and eventually crash.

About half of my time is the game paused and hanging out with family, and never had the game crash from it yet. I have twice gotten graphic glitches where the sky gets funky and clearly not rendering certain things correctly, but that is only when I breach the 8 or 10 hour mark of constantly on.

I am using a 3090 RTX with 128 GB RAM and an I9 Intel, with the game installed on a second M2. If that helps with anyone wondering hardware to stability.
