PSA: do NOT run with 4 Power Grip Tires
Despite the same rating as the Summer Tires and the fact that they drain electricity, I decided to spend the resources and give the PG Tires a try. Since there's so little info currently available about the various car upgrades (especially the high end ones), I figured I should post my experience with them here.

As I feared, these tires are an ability and therefore must be bound to an ability key or they're just a set of Summer Tires. You can bind all four to the same key. They're HOLD to activate, and four of them drain battery absurdly faster than the ARC Engine. I went from 100 charge to 0 (in a rainstorm with one hydro and two turbine generators) in about 10-15 seconds of use (for clarity, I was using the Turbolight Engine at the time so as to cleanly test the tires' power draw).

If used in short bursts, they CAN help with climbing steep slopes or stop your car from sliding down rocky terrain, but they aren't amazing at it or anything. They're certainly nowhere near good enough to warrant the power draw.

So, in case anybody else is curious about these, please, learn from my mistake and DO NOT waste your resources on these tires. They're garbage.

If the devs are reading, here's what you need to do to make these tires worthy of being Tier 3:
*GREATLY reduce their power draw (cut it down to about 1/10th of what it currently is)
*Change them from an active ability to a passive ability so that they automatically activate when off-road and deactivate when on-road. They also should not take up an ability slot.

Puncture proof would be nice as well I just unlocked and crafted these last night, but didn't get to try them out yet. Might have to switch back to puncture tires.

I found off road to be the best tires in the game in terms of cost to effectiveness.

summer tires and under suck on anything but roads, they slip and slide all over on offroad and arent that fast.

and anything over offroad is so expensive its not really worth it.

meanwhile offroad has really good traction 24/7 decent speed on everything except roads which is average speed, and are really cheap to craft.

Offroad just seems to be better then everything. With turbolight engine and anything better + 4x offroad tires you can almost drive up straight cliffs basically. I don't see the point of powergrip tires, or even all terrain tires.

same here its kinda nice tho since it means I dont have to farm for uber expensive tires lol.

also paddle tires are probably the most useless thing in the game lmao.

yeah, even into late game im still using off road on all 4 tires. the problem is that some resources are just too precious such as plasma, olympium fragments and thermosapcrystal, to craft something that is barely better yet will eventually worn out. i also just use armored panels and doors instead of something better for the same reason. i might wanna try anti puncture wheels sometime tho, i hate to keep getting flats and blownouts outta nowhere.

i tried the anti puncture and they control pretty badly. especially with slopes. they can hardly climb tiny hills (almost died for the first time because of this) never going back lmao. im more than happy making the odd sealing kit once in a while with my offroads lmao.

Not garbage, you pointed it out yourself even in your statement but apparently didn't utilize it to explore untouched areas that normally you can't access.

I had the exact opposite experience as my offroads were constantly going flat haha. As in, 4-5 sealant kits a run and sometimes more. I got tired of it cause anytime I slightly bumped anything, a tire would go flat. I put the punctures on and it was a breath of fresh air. I agree about the traction though, it's pretty bad but worth it for me not to have to stop seal my tires in the middle of a storm (or anomaly).

I think they should make it that as you unlock the options they should apply as a passive bonus to the offroads instead of being completely separate tires as a whole, would make investing in those upgrades make more sense.

I got two puncture proof tires on the front and two offroad ones on the back, every long trip my offroad tired get punctures or become loose. glad i invested on the puncture proof ones.

Who said I can't normally access these areas? I can access them with AT tires; it's just a little bit more of a struggle. PG Tires just made it slightly easier to go up climbs than AT Tires at the cost of a TON of battery power and handling like crap anytime you're off-road and not actively using power. That's why they're garbage.

most walls you can get up with offroad if you approach the wall with a bit of speed and head on.

the momentum is enough to push you up and the traction can carry you the rest of the way. power wheels arent at all needed for wall climbing imo.

but i can see having 2 being nice for the speed boost if its an emergency.

personally imma stick to my 4 offroads lol.
I have been thinking a lot of about the idea of mixing and matching tires, the car is rear wheel drive, it handles as such, could we put off roads in the back and runflats in the front to get up hills?

Also what about PG tires front right and back left with any other tire front left and back right, would you get the grip from both of them running on opposite corners without the power drain?
maeharaprojekt Feb 27, 2024 @ 1:49pm
The Power Grip tires seemed like a trap, to me. I was not certain, at first, if the name was literal but then I discovered that to be the case, at least as far as battery-drain is concerned.

When I stop farting around and complete the story, I think I will go back through and see what shenanigans I can perform with each of the technology traps.

Have you changed out your offroads or are you still using the first set you crafted? Because tires do have a hidden tread mechanic, and if you go too long just repair-puttying them they can become bald. Even before they hit bald they'll start going flat/wobbly way more often.

For reference, I just did the red meadow mission to the midzone, 5 stops, never had to fix a flat or wobble on new offroads.
