They are like the weeping angels in doctor who, I thought they were static mines that appeared on the maps that explode when hit but they actually HUNT you when it's dark and when you don't look at them they move towards you FAST.
I was looting a house in the dark and I was hearing noises and I noticed they was moving around when I lost vision of them and if I threw a flare it distracted them so they wouldn't go after me when I wasn't looking.

That's creepy as hell and no guide mentioned that, I went to leave a zone and when I got out of the car to pick up some loot suddenly I had like 50 of them rapidly approaching my car.

I bet that's what this new condition is I have. Blue looking figure condition says something is moving it's combined with a foggy area for me. Oh joy.

Yeah they do that. I turned around one time and jumped out of my seat as one was in a building with me in the dark.

I had a night foggy map so I couldn't see anything and then I realised the tourists move. I thought I was imagining things.

They actually fear the flares.

Throw lit flares(unlit flares do nothing) directly at them to trigger detonation(good for farming thermal sap). You can also use the liberator, but that's kind of expensive. In a pinch you can also throw car parts. I carry a spare panel for this reason. The Impact hammer can also knock hares into them.

Flares will also kill the glowing yellow orbs, but it's wasteful (do it once for an achievement).

I like how they manage it though. You don't see them move, just see them at their new spot when you turn around. That makes them much creepier.

In my experience they didn’t fear the flares they all gathered up at the flare as if it was a campfire and when it went out they was onto me again!

You can hit them with anything, you don't have to waste a flare. Scrap metal is a good choice.

Yeah they can be very creepy. however some of them salute you and whatnot and they toss items at you, like I even got a full on DOOR once from a singular saluting Tourist... just 'plonk' and I almost shat myself from the suddenly noise behind me XD

They cant directly harm you though and even in the dark they will sometimes throw stuff at you you can loot.

Got my first plasma cutter from one of them. Just tossed one at me. I didnt have one at the time, wonder if the things they toss are based on what you may lack atm.
