Parts going Fragile/Rusted after only 1 or 2 runs
And these aren’t particularly damage heavy runs. I could get so much out of parts early on and then I suddenly notice Bald on my tires and it’s now just constant. I truly do not understand what I’m doing “wrong” but I don’t feel I should be rewarded with a complete car overhaul after every other successful run…

From settings, you can remove "harmful car effects". This keeps your car in better condition for longer. But you still can get flats, fuel tank leakages, car quirks etc.

I don't think that's the issue here. I can put on a freshly crafted and painted door on a quirk-free car and it will still have rust patches and broken bits. Not to mention the car chassis that also have these on it, but that can't even be repaired or replaced. Remove harmful effects seems to be a setting that can't be changed after you started the game unfortunately (didn't let me at least).

You're not really doing anything wrong. Every part will eventually wear out and need to be replaced, even if nothing bad ever happens to it. It's just the nature of randomness that sometimes those conditions happen very early on in a component's life cycle. Kinda sucks to have to replace something you just made, but sometimes you get unlucky. Most components don't require anything special to rebuild until you're up to armored components and bigger engines, though.

The rust/dirt stuff is cosmetic, you can't get rid of it and even olympium parts have em. Would be nice to take a pressure washer to the car but it's just the aesthetic. What OP seems to be experiencing is the actual time worn mechanic that all car parts can go through that gives them a permanent downside after they've been in use for a long enough time. Stuff like plates/doors usually get "Fragile" which makes them easier to break, batteries might get "swollen" and tires get "bald" which can progress into "blown out" very easily afterwards.

I hope there is some time before the parts can actually just wear out because I made a backseat tank, filled it up, forgot I had it and like... 3 runs later(?) it was "rust"ed and lost like 20% of it's content, which I only knew about because it was marked on the garage hud.

I feel like I didn't actually get any mileage out of the thing I build. And it was in the backseat, so sheltered from the outside.

Now I'm actually debating if I want backseat addons because they feel like a waste now. I could invest in a high quality backseat battery but if it just gets a negative modifier I can't remove a few runs later, why even bother? And the leak-resistant battery could still potentially get a negative modifier that isn't a leak.

If a region has higher wear and tear just from being in there I would love to know about it beforehand because I swear, ever after unlocking the mid-zone, tires just constantly bald or burst from absolutely nothing. (I spend a lot of attention to where I drive, stuck to roads etc. and the tires still blew from nothing)

Yes, frankly, the same becomes infuriating at some point because of this. One trip to the mire - competely new fuel tank is somehow rusty and leaking every 2 minutes. 5 panels are somehow immediately "fragile". Backseat battery got a leak as soon as I enter, so one door keeps getting damaged. Other doors & tires need a sealing kit every minute.

At this point it's a plain frustration instead of enjoyment. Have to jump out of the car about once in a minute to fix something.

A reminder that parts you've stolen off cars have less time before they become fragile / bald than fresh. As for the rest of the status effects that can be fixed, those are triggered by damage so stop crashing your car everywhere and avoid radiation damage since that just damages everything equally and can trigger effects, amount of tire pops I've had because I swept by rad zones is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ infuriating amount.

Good dose of radiation will make the backseat fuel tank to get Rusted status.

I've used bacseat fuel tanks for 10+ runs and all was fine, until i got radiated the hell out of me and my car in the mid-zone. Once back in the garage, one of my backseat fuel tanks had Rusted status.

Leaking status is far worse than Rusted, since you'd be loosing fuel on constant basis.

I wonder; backseat tanks are hooked to the car's main fuel tank, so that those are essentially expansions for car's own fuel tank. But if one of them is leaking, would you only loose the fuel that was in that tank (25L or 50L depending on tank size), or entire fuel amount in your car (since they all are connected).

True.

Also, when viewing the car part in your inventory, you can expand it's info and actually see how many miles the car part has on it. Armored panels/doors i've reclaimed from Squires have between 1200 and 1800 miles on them.

Oh. I actually have an Ion shield. I specifically have a ton of batteries on my car just to run the Ion shield every time radiation comes up, even when extracting because I can literally not care about radiation.

I wonder if the Ion shield is bugged and maybe not blocks some timer or something that affects car parts in radiation. So while the Ion shield is active, the game still thinks the car is in radiation and the wear and tear statuses build up faster or something.

Haven't gotten that far, so, can't comment about ION shield (i'm in early mid-zone).

But when venturing into high rad aea, put lead insulated panels/doors on your car. Will help better than armored panels/doors.
