Battery dosesn't recharge when the engine is on?
Or is there some upgrade for this later maybe? I understand that the devs wanted to have another scarce resource, but headlights discharging battery while the engine is running is really silly and kind of annoying.

you do get a bit of charge if you take shock damage, but yeah its just to make headlights a resource. its cheap to make jumpers at least.

I thought the alternator only charges the battery when its moving.

Alternators don't exist in this world. I don't think the dev has much automotive knowledge. Concerning especially for a game focused around a car.

This is wrong in so many ways.

There is a meter right next to the charge meter to identify the power draw, so you can see which one of your utilities (or anomalies) are drawing power or returning power to the battery.

Personally I've never ran out of power but I was kind of irked when I first played it. Now it's kind of a nothingburger. My guess is that the "canon" answer is that all of the additional machinery plugged in to the battery draws more energy than what the alternator can put back in

Yeah, but at least you can attach a windmill to your car so you can get charge while driving. Kind of similar.

I mean, it's more because this is a game and they wanted you to manage your resources. If the car just charged the battery constantly there'd be no challenge in managing your resources.

Im pretty sure this is a design choice to make it a more scarce ressource so that you have to balance the power you have available. Can always compensate with the different power generators or just jumpers.

That would not be good gameplay mechanic ..would basically make the battery a non factor...and completely remove it from the game. This car has no alternator. Its running completely on the batteries charge. Something to worry about. Another resource. If the car charged it it would not even be part of the game.
