Allow us to repair peculiar items at high level...
I was really surprised when I looked up at what point in the game/talent tree I could start repairing peculiar items. Apparently the answer is that I will never be able too.

It almost seems unintentional that there never was a high-end skill in the tree that would allow this. You can even make it use a lot of resources but it gives you some longevity to collect advanced parts.

The entire point of Peculiar items is that they can't be repaired. You have to trade off a potentially good piece of equipment with the knowledge that it's a temporary benefit. That's their reason for existing. Allowing you to repair a Peculiar item at any stage of the game would remove the reason for that effect to exist.

Always a terrible design choice imo... Why bother to get them if they aren't permanent?
It'd be fine if repairing them had huge cost or something. But the one and done thing makes them useless full stop.

It is extremely temporary at it's current state. There are a lot of alternative ways that you can limit the use of them. For example only being able to repair them with other peculiar items or as mentioned previously with high amount of resources.

Right now it peculiar items like panels/doors do not offer you any advantages at all since you cannot even repair them while on the road and you have to carry around a spare panel/door or the materials for it.

it's just that some have a really cool design, and realising you only get 'em for a limited time then they're done is kind of a bummer (found one with a large "bigfoot" silhouette barred off kinda like the ghostbusters logo that looked great, was pissed that I couldn't keep it, no matter the extra effect)

Can you really not repair something like the scrapper or impact hammer?

As far as I know, tools cannot be repaired, only replaced.

I got a Peculiar steel door early on that had a racing flames pattern which I thought was cool. And I agree, it kinda sucked to eventually lose it, though that door stuck with me through probably a dozen junctions even without being able to repair it.

I just see it as an opportunity to cultivate mono no aware and don't get too attached to the free gifts of the Zone.

those designs i believe are "wraps", or decoration, i know for a fact the flames can be found and applied to any door or plate, so im guessing the bigfoot one is the same

They should have just made them exceedingly rare but repairable like any other item.

That might be the mural decal that has big foot, I generally check each decal I get, but ultimately just keep them on the shelf and don't really use them all too often because not many are that cool to me. But I'm almost certain big foot is the mural decal. I put it on the hood of my car, and thought it looked disgusting, so I took it off lmao. Too vibrant for me.

I fully agree!

I personally see absolutely zero point in using them - outside taking a few "Fashion screenshots". When I realized I couldn't repair the item - I put them away in the locker and haven't looked at them since.

I've found several decals by now that have patterns from the peculiar pieces that I found early in the game, so I'm guessing these aren't as unique as people think. I'm not sure what the point of them is, maybe just a little flavor and variation for the part of the game where your car is still a rust bucket. I didn't find anything better than steel, so I didn't miss the repair option, since I upgraded tech soon after anyways.

They have more health and IIRC won't break at all (no cracked windows, etc) but the caveat is that you can't repair them. That's their whole deal.
the devs should have made peculiar items "anomalous" instead; granting them unique abilities that you cant find in normal counterparts to justify its non-repairable trait. its always funny that i kept getting peculiar plasma cutters that literally have half the durability of the original one

I agree that unique abilities would have been neat, but Peculiar items *do* have increased stats over base versions of the items.
