What is the screen under the ability panel?
I don't know what it's called or what it does except play an animation when you click on it. I believe I have a quirk that turns this screen on when the driver's door closes, or does this happen randomly for other people too? I had a look in the tinker's bench but couldn't find what it might be

Thats normal. Nothing is explained (at least at my point in the story) but considering it can react when you crash into things, I'm just assuming the car is sentient to some extent and thats how it interacts with you.

That doesn't mean its sentient in of itself. lol. something taking a form of another does not mean sentience.
A piece of paper can be shaped to take the form of, say, a bird, does not mean its sentient. Now the question would be if remnants are sentient across the board, which from what I've seen is iffy to say the least.

Then I'm gonna ask you to quote when they directly say remnants are sentient because I'm over 90% confident they never outrightly say it.

The car is basically the One Ring in terms of it's influence and behavior. You can argue semantics, if the car is 100% sentient based on what is said directly to you (I assume we can know for sure at the end, but I'm not there yet), but the basic tropes of fiction dictate that it is definitely sentient to some extent.

I never said the car was not sentient, I was arguing that remnants are not by nature, sentient. All the ones I've heard of in the game don't really have a means to portray it and if they do its not mentioned in the logs.
I'd ask you to read the whole conversation.

They don't specify that the car is special. There's not reason to assume it's properties are unique, compared to other remnants, until proven otherwise.

Other than the fact that its... a car... which they specifically bring up there hasn't been one working for a long time. There are obviously plenty of parts to keep a car running in the game (as we do it all the time), yet we hear about no other cars being operational.
Plus theres a lot of other indirect ways to say the car is special. I mean, getting into spoiler territory but the mission about going off the bridge is ENTIRELY about the car being special compared to other remnants. Its not in a major way, but its more than enough to tell us that theres more going on. Meanwhile, the other remnants the games brings up are extremely mundane in comparsion and yet STILL known to be remnants at the time. because of whatever method they use to determine them being available.

TLDR, the car is special, even as compared to other remnants, thats known as soon as you jump the bridge.

As someone who asked a specific quote to be proven wrong, you sure like to not have actual proof, and just operate on the hunch when it's convenient for you

Its a whole lot more evidence than either you or what I think I should presume your alt has provided lol. They directly said that remnants were sentient, I said that they didn't ever say that, I then provided information that supported my argument more, meanwhile they backpedaled.
Nothing I said is strictly wrong, some of it is conjecture, and could be overridden, but they all play nice with the gameworld, meanwhile, I'm not given proof that it doesn't play nice with the gameworld even though apparently there is proof out there? You know the game has logs for every mission and every dialogue? It would not be hard to find the evidence, should it exist, and I'm not even against if i'm proven wrong, but til someone tells me a log name that breaks my argument, I'm gonna decide to keep telling you that you're *probably* wrong.
