[Feedback] Side fuel tank is worthless.
It holds a bit less fuel than a large fuel can and is taking up a side-rack slot which can be used for side storage instead, large fuel can not only fits nicely in the top right slots of the side storage but leaves plenty of extra space. its just not worth it to use the side fuel tank ever, even in the context of wanting to stack up on fuel it's still better to do side storage and just fill it up with 5 large fuel cans per side storage, which is almost 6x the fuel capacity of 1 side fuel, AND you still have some storage left over.

Edit : After further going into the game and seeing even more upgrades I can confidently say that yes, the side fuel tank is still useless. There are much better fuel tanks you can get that go onto other racks as well as much better things that can go onto the side racks if more inventory isn't your forte. Hell put a fuel synthesizer on there when you get it, sure it'll drain battery but at least you get regenerating fuel. The literal only potential good thing about it is that it directly feeds into your gasline, but it's not hard to refuel nor does it take that much time unless you have a massive fuel reserve so this isn't that much of a plus.

You're right about the space efficiency, which is why I haven't even bought the side fuel can upgrade, but I assume it feeds directly into the engine, right? If so then that would be its singular advantage over the much better large fuel can.
Didn't seem to, it had it's own fuel level and it just straps onto the side with no visible internal connections. P sure the intention is to drain it with a small can as a mobile fuel reservoir, even if it did funnel directly into the gas tank there'd still be no point. Refueling doesn't take much time and you can still hold roughly 5-6x of fuel if you just fill 1 side storage with large fuel cans.
wut, its literarly connected to the inside tank when you hover over it. the side fuel tank connects to the main tank. i can guarantee it because i have a side fuel tank. o_o

edit:
here a screenshot of it that it does connect to the main fuel tank

it emptys the side fuel tank first too before it touches the main tank in my game.

maybe it only counts when you actually putt it on that side or in that specific spot.

Side tank is an expansion to the main tank, when you install it you can see the shadow of a pipe connecting to the main tank.
So it maybe smaller than the large can but youbhave the luxury of not needing to spend time filling the tank.
I just use the backseat ones think it takes half a large can to fill or two thirds of it. The side ones feel kind of pointless since you need the side rack for storage or side lights if you want those. That and the internal tank does not get damaged.

Does the back seat one connect to the main tank?
They all do. And when you fill the car, it fills all the tanks at the same time. gas cans are to refill the car. The add on tanks are to extend the fuel tanks capacity.

Oh nice, thanks for the reply.
I use it, but just because there isnt much else to hold on the side other than storage and stuff to maintain battery charge.

atm i have solar panels a side fuel tank and a storage slot on my cars sides.

the moment I can get a roof tank tho side one goes bye bye
I don't even use the large fuel tank, I need all that space in the trunk for loot.
Yeah I agree, I just didn't bother upgrading my fuel tank until I researched the Expanded Backseat Fuel Tank. I used a roof rack for storage, my side racks didn't hold anything other than mini-turbines and solar panels cause I can't find fabric for side storages. Currently at late game I found a nice arrangement,
2 Expanded Backseat Fuel Tanks,
2 Side Batteries (70 total charge)
1 Anchor to Electricity converter (Side)
1 Hydro Generator (Side)
Augmented Trunk Storage (holds a lot)
Resource Radar and Chrono Dilator. (Roof)

Bigger engines drain fuel faster. There are also junction modifiers that affect fuel consumption.
yeah, finally managed to get the resources to upgrade the engine. its supposed to be 4 mpg worse, but it feels WAY worse then that. normally i have been just going to a gas station, or a fuel truck, once a map, maybe 4 cars. now its stop at every single car and shut off the engine nearly every chance you get. im thinking of going back to the weaker engine. i might give it one more run. but i will not use the highest power one. almost half mpg what first engine has? just sounds impossible.

its DEFINITELY worse than 4mpg worse. but if you put a backseat fuel tank in, it isnt too much of an issue. hit a gas station if you get the chance, but most the time i was teleporting out with about a quarter of a tank left. also dont leave the car idling while youre walking around.

that does seem like a nice arrangement. lots of people seem to skip the resource radar but it is like, the unsung hero of the game for me. i used the ion shield instead of chrono dilator, the dilator is cool but being able to just not take radiation damage to my car's panels is also very nice.

for energy i played most of the game using wind turbines. when you drive fast, it spins the turbines even if it isnt windy outside. two wind turbines, a lightning rod, and a fourth slot that i kept changing out was pretty much the whole game for me.

and if you dont know, lightning rods take the damage from electrical hazards so your other components dont have to! its a must have for me. can just drive straight through minutemen and shocked tourist roadblocks.
I replaced mine with a fuel synthesizer because it generates fuel over time. very useful in comparison.

Not only that, but they are the most cargo space efficient fuel container in the game! 9 squares for 35 fuel. NONE of the other fuel container can reach said level of fuel per cargo square! AND it can slowly make gas via power!
Personally I have the LIM engine and it runs through gas, with an expanded backseat tank, at about the same rate, maybe a bit higher, than the OG engine so that tracks
Are the back seat and side panel tanks supposed to send fuel to the main tank? I've run out of fuel and the back seats were still full of fuel.
Have since gone to ARC and just packed a load of plasma emitters for my power needs if my power generation isn't cutting it.

They should, you'll even see the fuel gauge change as you install extra tanks from the base 3 segments to more. There's sometimes rare funkiness when installing parts on the car though, try removing all parts that do the relevant effect (in this case all additional fuel tanks) then reinstall them after they're all uninstalled from the car, so the game registers the base-line values properly again.
