What's the point of the transfer box?

Is this supposed to just be extra storage for the base?

its in its name technically, it lets you carry it, open your trunk and storages, and transfer between those inventories. Basically, you can open your trunk with it in your hands, take all your loot out, and throw it into a storage container at your garage. Oh yea, the crafting table in the garage can access all the storage in the garage.

You can hold it and transfer items straight into it rather than backpack first then a second transfer. It is quite handy.

How? I have it and it just seems to be another storage container (with a fair bit of space I will admit)

Do I need to remove the cardboard boxes from the back of the car to fit it in?

Edit: Okay got the hang of it, when you get back to the garage you pick up the transfer trunk, load all the stuff from the car into the trunk, carry the trunk to the storage locker, then transfer stuff from the trunk to the locker. Basically the trunk can hold more can carry in your backpack so you can do an unload in one trip with the trunk.

hold E to pick up the box, when you open the trunk or other containers instead of your inventory on the left it's the transfer box inventory which is HUGE, you can instant transfer your entire trunk into it by tapping t, carry it to a shelf, and tap T to instantly transfer everything to the shelf, which would take like 4 trips with just your backpack. It's huge timesave when unloading.
