Is the station wagon FWD, RWD, or 4WD?
I have been wondering whether putting better tires on the front or rear wheels, when I only have a single pair, could make a difference in handling.

I only have one pair of summer tires ATM and I can't yet tell whether having them on the same axle or mismatched is doing anything to improve or degrade steering and traction.

Does it even matter before I get the offroad tires?

Tried to figure that out myself. From what I could tell, the game seems to treat the car as a 4WD. A full set of offroads is a huge improvement.

Thank you for the info. I had hoped that there was a little bit more granularity to how the car modifications affected handling but it is what it is.

Note, all four being offroad does mean your road speed is significantly slower than offroad speed. I think i top at about 40 on road with all four.

Correct. However, you end up off road in the worst situations while if you're on a road it's usually pretty chill. What I mean is, you will increasingly find roads less appealing to ride on.

That being said, All Terrain are really good if you get them eventually and I swear I've seen hover wheels.

Came in search of this exact answer. In typical fashion looks like I was just over thinking things and it’s much more simple and straight forward. Bit of a shame. That would have been a neat extra mechanic.

Yep it's certainly 4WD and thank goodness for that.
The traction control alert with inclines or slippage are mere suggestions with the offroad tires.

:steamthis:

That set of tires is a joy, once fully installed.

To me, it has felt as if installing paired front or rear has less benefit than installing all corners together, but it has been better than one-at-a-time or other patterns (paired-sides, mismatched pairs, etc).
