in order to complete your mission you have to do an objective (usually collecting 1+ cores that can be used to escape.
when you get to later missions you will have to travel through multiple areas to reach it since they are far away, so stopping for supplies and stuff when you want can be a thing you do. or you can do supply runs and then stock up like crazy before longer drives.
so my answer is it depends on the player and if they like to loot every little thing they see.
My first expeditions were 1-2 hours long, because I scrapped literally everything, but now they barely take me 20 minutes to complete, because I'm not stopping for trash.
