Reverse lights
Maybe I'm not far enough into the game, but why are there no rear facing lights on the car?
I can't see anything at night when I'm trying to reverse.

EDIT: Here is a video of me proving that cars have very visible reverse lights

I agree. I immediately noticed they were missing.

Yeah I'd love to be able to mount reverse lights. I don't see anything like that in the tech tree. The headset-synced one might suit, but not really.
Does your real car have those? Mine doesn't.

What are you talking about? Literally every car has rear lights. Its like, you know. The law. Those big red things that light up when you go backwards?

I think it's based on the post processing quality; high or better seems to make tail-light illumination insanely bright. It's almost an eyesore at a distance because the tail lights are as bright as the headlight lol

The car is from... IDK, well earlier than 1998. Reverse lights weren't a standard feature so long ago.

I mean, mine has brake lights but they don't light up in reverse. Are they supposed to?

back of every car should have:
- red lights, I guess for everyone to know where is rear of a car :D (in EU those have to be on all the time)
- very bright red lights that goes on when you brake (stop light or brake light)
- two blinking orange lights one on each side, to indicate turning
- one white light that goes on when you switch to reverse gear and I guess he meant that last one

um... no white lights light up when you're backing up to let others know you're backing up... the red ones are brake lights to let others know you're braking... we don't have others to let know things unless you're talking about tourists.

But yeah thats the real reason we don't have lights on the back, they'd be more maintenance to balance into the game on the player and they are only there to give information to people outside the car. Which the player doesn't need

My real car is a 2010 Toyota Yaris don't laugh at me :(.
There are a set of red, and a set of white lights on the rear of my car (as well as the orange indicator lights). The reds turn on with the headlights or the brakes, the whites turn on when the gearbox is in reverse.

I live in Australia, if the US didn't share those standards in the period, then I completely understand.

so instead of debating about whether or not it's appropriate for the car to have reverse indicator lights (but for the record, the remnant should have those if it's pretending to be a car that ever was street legal), we should be discussing the key assumption in the first post:

that these lights, in any meaningful way, provide adequate illumination to light stuff up while backing up.

those lights exist to provide information to OTHER PEOPLE. drivers and pedestrians. they are NOT headlights on the back of your car. the amount of brightness on those varies quite a lot, but in cars from the era the remnant appears to be mimicking, it was frequently common for them to barely illuminate someone standing directly behind the car, and since the object is so close, the rear view mirror has trouble catching the illuminated part of the person-or-object right there at that spot.

later on you can get a spotlight that targets where you are looking

but to answer early on reversing by looking behind you is a mess anyway with how cluttered the back of the car is. its better to use the mirrors or just plain ol guessing game than to turn around.

I'm not asking for a rear facing spotlight. I just want to be able to tell if I'm about to hit a tree or something.

+1 reverse lights and fog lights attachable to car...for the feeling
