Matter Deconstructor not giving anything back

Is the matter deconstructor supposed to give resources back? I've been feeding it unneeded crude car parts, but not getting any resources back.

I'm not entirely sure how it works but the more health an item has the more you get out of it, and really broken items sometimes give nothing. Also Pearls definitely give less when you deconstruct them than if you spend 5 minutes grinding them.

I don't think health affects it. I've had some "fresh" parts I made by accident give back nothing and almost toast parts give a bunch.

@PerfectLife - from what I've experienced so far, crude give little to nothing back. Scrapping higher tier stuff will generally net you a decent return.

I also assume you are not using the 'heart' items from the dumpster? Those don't seem to produce anything when you deconstruct them.

It depends on where you get the parts. If you get the parts from the dumpster, you don't get anything in return, since that would basically be more free materials than the dumpster gives. At least this is what I have noticed. The durability of the items also matters substantially too.

That makes sense. Thank you for clearing this up.

I wish this had been communicated better in-game since I wasn't sure if it was a bug or working as intended. Showing the expected output from the current input may help with this. I hope this will be corrected in a patch so others will have a more positive experience. Most of my hiccups with the game so far were from a lack of clarity in-game.

iv also had this happen, i scrapped a freshly made unused puncher thing that smashes the glass tanks and got nothing back

So basically anythign with the "hart" symbol (AFAIK indicates friendly dumpsteer origin) wont work?
