What is the transfer trunk for?

Like the title says. Are you supposed to install it in the backseat? Do you keep it in the garage? do you stack it in the inventory in the car? What is the use of it?

What's the point in having lockers if you have this box? I've not used a locker even once yet, I just store everything in the box. Granted, I'm only a couple hours in.

If items in the box won't be stored forever. I'm assuming the idea was to put everything from the car into the box, then carry the box to the locker and drop everything in the locker.

From what I see you can unlock enough lockers and storage space that you don't need the box or any external storage solutions. Also you can unlock a decently big locker right next where your car is in the garage, which can help.

I don't think he realizes you can directly transfer stuff from the storage box by picking it up and going to a locker, I didn't get that idea either but now that makes sense. I'm gonna keep it next to my car / bay area.

best use i've found for the transfer trunk is when i have a set of parts i swap out of the repair box... if you don't use the transfer trunk you have to carry the pieces one by one but with the transfer box you can do nearly the whole load of panals and doors and stuff at once.

ever since i started doing this I use alot less repair paste/torches since you can just swap out 2/3s of your car every time you come back.

and yeah like others said, obviously the best way to use the trunk in general is to hold it so you can move things straight too and from it.

the transfer trunk is quite useful for me. after each raid i would just maul and tear the unfortunate regenerating car wreck and its little children, extort the garbage dump for that sweet putty, recycle any parts or tools close to breaking and then activate the garage vac. saves time and effort from picking resources scattered on the floor one by one..... or wasting your hand vac. the garage vac has no inventory limit so you can literally just store anything there temporarily while you sort things out. be careful though, anything inside the garage vac will be gone when you depart.

i used the hell out of the transfer trunk until about halfway through the game when i unlocked parts lockers and pneumatic storage.

now that i'm not scavenging the outer zone anywhere near as often (or to the same extent as in the beginning of the game) i find that it isn't really useful to me anymore. the amount of resources i return from the middle and inner zones isn't as varied so the volume of parts is more condensed.

The garage's auto-vac should spit it out when you use it. Be mindful that you remove all materials from the auto-vac temporary storage as well.

If it doesn't appear and is still nowhere to be found, I guess it could be a bug.

I was wondering that myself, because it doesn't seem like you can stow it anywhere. I get the concept that it's supposed to be a place to store your resources that's always accessible via anomaly magic or whatever, but it's kinda odd that it's just a loose item instead of a stationary locker in the garage. For a while I was scratching my head trying to see if it's supposed to actually go anywhere. It feels weird just leaving a loose item lying around the floor of the garage.

A lot of people here saying "but you still can only move one item at at time!" in tons of threads....just press T like it says on the screen when over the container you want to clear out to transfer everything at once. The transfer trunk is a lifesaver, it saves like 12 trips to the car every time you come back to the garage.

I feel like people who don't get the point of transfer trunk played at best for a couple of runs...

Transfer trunk is not for storage, TRANSFER is literally in its name. I'll let you guess what it's actually for. But if you want to store stuff in it, oh boy I can't wait to see you asking "what do you do with stuff that doesn't fit in the trunk, but you need to unload from your car for the next run.

So after every run you just load your loot in your backpack several times, or you just don't have much loot to begin with?
