In reality, a lot of people complain about it as they have to waste their time replaying the exact parts of the game as they already did.
It was one of the biggest feedback to the Demo and it will most probably be one of the main reasons why people don't buy or refund.
You can only save while you in garage a.k.a. safe zone.
ESC -> Save Game -> pick one of ten slots.
hence why so many games arent games you'll play, they were made fore another audience.
reasons why in mission saving wont probably be a thing:
1) the devs said so
2) keeping track of all those storage containers, damage values, anomaly positions, your position, the cars position, fuel levels, battery level, dialogue heard, current weather, part defects, and probably more (i only played the demo for now waiting for payday to buy the game) would be a pain to add now.
3) it would lead to more bugs needing to be fixed since the game was not designed around this kind of saving and would definantly break current saves, not to mention there were Physical copies made meaning that those would need a patch.
4) immersion would be broken, ik you can just not save or make it an option but still.
Maybe the game is gonna be improved by modders if possible. Who knows.
The sheer amount of people asking for a save and quit function shows that the developers may have misjudged their audience a bit. Making a poor decision is fine. Doubling down on a poor decision is not. If their pride in their vision means more to the devs than sales, that is entirely their choice. I don't expect it's a choice that will lead to more games, though. Bummer. I truly was excited for the game. If they ever add save & quit, maybe I'll pick it up then. I had to step away from the demo and never bothered picking it up again because I didn't want to do everything over again. Not paying $30 to do that over and over.
Tell me which audience is the 'nah, we don't want saves' audience?
I've never heard of this genre before.
The devs said so is a poor reason.
Keeping track of all that stuff has been pretty standard in the industry since... uh.. the 90s.
@Sokaren - Sure, "Plan stuff out in [your] life or play games that can be saved every 5 mins."
Yeah, because everything is life is famous for going exactly according to plan. Also, no one is asking for 'Save Scumming' or a save every 5 min., just a 'Save on Quit' would be fine for most. It prevents large chunks of playtime from being wasted for many people. Not to mention that 'NO Save on Quit' sounds like it would be far more susceptible to people 'gaming the system' and quitting when it looks like they might die so that they can try again.
Surely someone can figure it out though? There's some pretty talented modders out there that have added features originally thought impossible.
