What's up with the engines?
I am using the 2nd engine, the turbo lite one and have gone many hours without any problems, all of a sudden I am having something wrong with the engine every 10-15 minutes, regardless of where I'm at or what I'm doing. I have even replaced it with a brand new one and I still can't go 10-15 minutes without needing to use a mechanic's kit or electrician's kit.

Ol carb engine is all you need. I've used it for 25 hours of driving and it never so much as got weary. I got a turbolight, and it was weary by the time I finished the second drive.

It's a little weaker, but honestly, I don't feel the need to rush. The storms are kinda inconsequential anyway.

Has no sense. Its statistics should be better, including durability and resistance compared to the gasoline engine. That is why creating it requires the use of more specialized and difficult to obtain materials.

The only thing that can justify what the OP describes is the presence of an undiagnosed anomaly that causes engine failure.

You'd think so, but in practise it seems to be worse:
It uses more fuel, including when it's just idling in place while you're out looting, unless you turn it off. It breaks faster, similar to others, my original engine never broke.
The extra speed is pretty useless. When do you actually have a need to go fast for long time in this game? It's very stop-go.
My favorite engine has turned out to be the electric AMP engine. It has 0 drain while it's on but idling, only drawing power to actually move and electricity is easily acquired and stockpiled if needed. It also has from what I can tell the highest acceleration of all engines, which is the thing you actually need.

In real cars, engines that produce more power for roughly the same displacement break more often, need more maintenance, use more fuel and overall are less reliable then engines of lower output. This is not an opinion, this is fact.

real cars don't ask me for 40 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thermo sap. I wouldn't have a problem if the engine itself wasn't just.. danger prone?

Look, I'm ok with replacing it. I'm not ok with it barely lasting 3 trips. T-T I keep getting ambushed by wriggling wrecks and belching barnacles. The first I just never recognize (I always think its a car pile) and the second always seems to find extra range when I cross the horizon and it sees me.

your car parts get wear and tear over time, the more runs, the more damage a part will take when its hit. the reason your engine keeps breaking is that you're not replacing it when it gets the weary permanent status effect.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. Unless you are taking it over every ramp you see and nose-diving off cliffs, there is no way you are weary after 2 or 3 trips. I built my first turbo light right after entering the mid zone and I just replaced it with the Amp motor about 10 trips later. It became weary after my last trip, so I decided to upgrade to all electric. You really have to be beating the hell outta that thing to only get 2 or 3 trips. You either have a quirk for engine weardown or its been weary a while and you didn't notice.

When I first got the TL engine, it was literally breaking every mission for the next 6 or so runs, even had it break 2 times in less than 5 minutes in one mission when all I was doing was driving on the roads, not pushing the car hard at all.
Usually it was the weary fault , but other (luckily) fixable issues still occur occasionally.
Seems the RNG in this game isn't quite so random as it should be and it sometimes targets parts that either you can't replace or cost a small fortune in rarer materials to replace.
Still enjoying the game though.
