Make sure there's no room anywhere else in the repairer for your item. Then simply shift-click the item in hand. It will pop into that slot every time.
Drag the item you want to put in there as close as you can before the cursor stops dragging it. Keep the button held, then use WASD controls to move the item in the direction you want (D for right in this case). When you are happy with the position release the mouse and click. Should place the item where you want.
This also works for the right-most cells in car storage where similar issues happen.
ah that works again thx
I can report that the same thing happens. What I do to work around it is to manually fill in the other slots and then press spacebar to make the game automatically put the part in that last slot.
I have the expanded matter regenerator as well.
For me, the slot looks normal but dragging any part is impossible as there is some hidden border in the expanded matter regenerator in that area. I am running the bog standard 1920 x 1080 resolution for the game and I cannot manually put anything in the upper right slot.
