How to deal with Pickpockets

I've seen a lot of people here say that Pickpockets are supremely annoying, so here's a tip for dealing with them if you have a moment to get out of your car.

Pickpockets can only steal and hold one item at a time. So if you see one ahead of you, throw a lit flare directly beneath it. It will pick up the flare and hold that as its one item, making it ignore everything else.

You'll know it has the item in hand when the flashing siren it holds turns on.

I think you can throw pretty much anything at them. I got annoyed by one that stole a headlight, and then a door.
After that it stole a singular swamp crystal, at which point I went "fine, keep it". So it might be that any old item thrown directly under it will keep it busy. Gonna try some scrap metal or cloth or whatever else low value item I have on me next time I see one.

When they steal things they fly off a ways but also it had a literal strobe light and alarm going off so you can for sure find it again and take the item back.

I did lose a LIM bumper to one for sure though when I opened gateway and started rushing to it...saw the bastard snatch it off but was in too much of a rush from the storm to stop and take it back.

I was rushing to get the road exit during a storm full of pickpockets with lim-shield on, in a run with 6 junctions, only when I arrived the final node I realize that they took my XL Roof Storage full of loot and a side wind generator I couldn't believe it.

one yoinked my ressource detector right off my roof! For some reason it just stayed around not doing anything when I stole it back.
Honestly the Bubblegum things are way more annoying so far.

As I myself remember, you can't distract a pickpocket. You can distract an abductor or bubbles, but not a pickpocket
