I actually did the same, but I also assumed I would have a way out that did not require the LIM shield. Sadly was wrong and had to abandon the run :( Didnt lose my engine though
Anyway, managed to corrupt my save to force the backup to be used. Sadly this was already in the this dead end zone, so had to abandon with the "keep items" option turned on, still this was quite the awful experience with this game I have to say.
no, the lim shield is a direct upgrade to the limpulse emitter.
Maybe I'm thinking of the ion shield? There's one that only protects against radiation.
the lim shield does everything the limpulse emitter does, only better and also protects from physical damage (somewhat)
the ion shield only protects from radiation, but it gives you a radius around the car to stand in that's protected. making it exceptionally good for braving the storms to collect payloads from the air-drops.
I needed more Thermosap to build the LIM Shield. I'm scouring the route planner. Well, this node says it has tonnes of the stuff! I'm fighting my way there, even picked up the Ghost of my last (failed) attempt to get to this area.
I arrive. There's so much other stuff here that I need. Red Balloons. A Tour Bus scan. Well-outfitted derelict cars. A bunch of Anchors. I even have the energy stored up from my way here, so even if I have to dip out, I can do it really quickly and conveniently.
Oh. All of the warp points are on the other side of this big wall. OK, well, I'll try and power it. If I fail, I at least keep a few scraps and have the knowledge of what to expect the next time. Nope, the machine won't power up unless you've completed "Craft a LIM Shield" (and put it into your trunk, for some reason? Even though it needs to be mounted to a bumper hardpoint?). OK. Maybe I can turn and leave. I still have my Jacks, I can hop the wall and backtrack. Nope, I get picked up and returned to the play area like I'm an escaping baby.
I don't wanna Abandon my trip. The last time I did that, I arrived without my roof storage, side-rack storage, and my entire Turbolight Engine block.
I found out (through this thread, no less) that you can set in the options that Abandoning a trip doesn't cost anything. But I would have at least liked to go home without "cheating" and without colliding against an arbitrary limitation.
Put a warp on this side of the wall, devs. Or, at the very least, warn the player that if they go to an objective junction without a necessary object, that they may be marooned there.
