Magnetic bumper surely useless?

Hey guys.

Just curious if I'm missing something with the magnetic bumper. Surely by the time you're unlocking it grabbing the odd bit of scrap metal from the bumper is such a mute point (by this point I have lim shield and lim emitter). I'm also sure that if I am running over metal on my travels it must be so minimal that it's not worth losing the various means of protections that you can get from allllll other bumpers right?

What am I missing?

I fear I've just figured it out as soon as I've posted this.... The magnet is an add on to whatever bumper you're using? so it can be anti radiation AND magnetic perhaps?

Is that what it does? Just collect scrap metal as you drive? I have literally 600+ scrap metal right now...I've even destroyed like 100 of it to make room at one point.

That's what reading it suggests "picks up any straggling scrap on your drive" I've got metric tonnes of the stuff and I'm certainly not sitting here wondering how to up my intake

How are you getting straggling scrap on drive anyway. I never saw random scrap or bit laying around unless you standing still near the tourist. I got all the way up the middle zone and didn't see anything.

Aggressively "talk" to some tourists, "encourage" bubblegum buddies, or just wreck wrecks or science stands in high winds, and you'll have loose material.

Whether it's worth making the bumper, though, is not something I'm going to answer.

I haven't used it. Maybe it generates resources randomly? Kinda like a bonus resource at the end of your run? If it was random resources and not just scrap metal it might be worth. I'd like to see some plasma/tree candy/thermosap stuck to it.

Just in case anyone is wondering about the results. In going through four maps so far, I have acquired about 13 stacks of scrap metal. The magnetic bumper has not pulled anything else yet, and I am in the deep zone, so that is testing all three zones. I am not running over anything, it just seems to randomly generate these over time while driving.

Thanks for the info, but this really does seem kinda useless. Scrap metal is EVERYWHERE and probably the resource people have the most of hah

Devs, please buff this to also grant other resources from time to time.

It would be pretty awesome if it automatically harvested swanp coral, red balloons, stuff like that. Otherwise, yeah, you're wasting valuable defense.

Only thing i use Magnetic bumper is when i need/want to make loads of LIM Magnets, just letting it generate scrap without me interfering and when in deep Zone i just grab everything in there and shoving those to the Magnet maker.
Sure you can take your scrap from your garage but im that kind of person which hoards stuff and tries not use them from the storage.

I don't know about you but as my elders have used the dish washer as storage I use the magnetic bumper as storage for the scrapes. Plus it's useful for when you're in the deep zone and need to get scraps for lim magnetizers.

At least in my experience the magnetic bumper takes all the damage and my power bumper within has never been replaced or repaired.
