What do the stars next to item names mean?

Sometimes I find a car part with a star in the corner, much like there would be a heart on tools given by the dumpster, or the warning symbols when there's a hole to patch or similar issue. What do these stars mean/do? are they somehow better than their regular counterparts? I tried looking through my logbook and scanning the item, but nothing answers this and it bugs me, XD

If you drop it on the ground and scan it, it should show as having the Peculiar status, which I believe has more health than normal but can't be repaired (and you get nothing if you deconstruct it).
