how to repair?
Quick noob question -
I come back from the zone and my car is almost totally wrecked - everything is red and smoking and peeping .. and now I stand there with my little paint-repair-bucket with its 4-5 charges that does almost nothing ... and is expensive to craft

Is there another way to repair my car in the early game that I missed in the shop?

Repair Putty is the first method. Hold down the button and it'll slop putty onto a damaged part and repair it. You get like 5 uses. Works well but the 2 chemical is costly.

Don't use repair putty in the early game. Just craft new pieces since it's so cheap. It's best to save repair putty for when you're out on drives and just make entirely new stuff after each run and scrap the old stuff until you get to the higher tier stuff.

you dont need doors or panels to drive.

you NEED tires and an engine. so make sure those are your first priority. doors and panels can always be replaced for mega cheap with scrap/steel ones and later on in the game you should have enough resources to get whatever you want if you make some successful heavy looting runs.

I second the "save your repair putty" sentiments. Early game, just craft crude parts on the go if you need to, then steel once you get back to base. The repair putty is wasted on the cheap parts, and later chemicals will be in short supply due to their uses for other things.

ontop of the repair putty tips I will say ive noticed mid to late game the friendly dumpsters gives me ATLEAST 1 free repair putty per return home. sometimes even up to 3 or 4 of them.

if you get into the habit of strategically repairing you can get quite the hoard of repair putty for free.

def do not recommend crafting them.

there is a setting in gameplay that gives you automatic recharge, repair and refuel when you return from a successful drive...that might help

realizing this helped me a lot, chemicals are pretty rare in the outer zone and if you're being a proper crafting survival hoarder you'll have plenty of metal, glass and plastic to spare. Also never forget about that car behind your garage, always respawns some parts and a couple flares in the trunk with a like a computer monitor and boombox on a nearby shelf after every run.

Remember some noted you can deconstruct paint foir chemicals. Pro tip there to be honest

fyi just be aware automatic repair on successful run also repairs all quirks. i use fuel health and battery option though save myself some clicks but i enjoy figuring out the quirks

plus... you can really cheat the repair switch to be honest a simple run grab 1 klim then leave and poof all repaired scummy imho but is what it is.

Do you not know how to read? Or you just skipped all tutorials or what? The tutorial literally guides you through everything in the beginning. My god. How do some of you actually make it through life. I refuse to believe it

I second this. especially if it's just crude or steel.

You can also keep some spare parts in the repair machine (forgot what it's called) and rotate in the used parts each time you return. The used parts then get repaired while you are away. I'm not sure but it seems that this system keeps the parts from becoming brittle like they do from using putty.

Generally you want to keep looting those mini labs that look like smoothed out trailer homes. They usually have chemicals in their lockups and you can reliably come back with more chemicals than you need for repairs if you keep looting them, especially on longer runs.

If you are literally missing parts, the dumpster will likely throw you a replacement.
