Thermosap Crystals: Myth, or Legend?
Whelp, I've hit the hardest progress wall I've ever encountered in any survival-craft game: Thermosap crystals. The LlM shield, which i apparently absolutely 100% need to progress the story - requires SIXTY of the things.

my last five hours of tempting fate in the midzone have yielded a whopping sixteen.
I've started "Tourist Tipping" with thrown flares after playing for hours on hours avoiding the crash test dummies, this yields extremely poor results, even shocked tourists and tour buses seem too have a a below 5% drop rate. mobs of 20 or more often explode in glorious chain reactions and give a smattering of plastic if anything at all.

For all my excursions, all I've actually gotten to show for it is burning clean through two carborated engines

I'm scraping for Squires, not having much fortune, they are a very low spawn rate in the outer zone and equally rare in the mid zone. If nothing else they reliably provide at least one crystal- very rarely two.

I hear tales of "Thermosap condensers" but i have this far not seen even one in the mid
zone. Perhaps that's because i've rolled abysmally in terms of mid zone conditions, having heavy fog, torrential rain, or eerie darkness constantly with sudden storms. My entire mid zone is currently destabilized, and i physically cannot buy the upgrade to restabilize zones because that requires a resource from the mid zone that requires thermosap to harvest efficiently.

I'm not really enjoying trying to hunt these things. Thread created for solidarity with Thermosap hunters.

I just look for the bright red crystal then use the Impact Hammer. Usually the big crystal is in a group of 2-4 which yield about 8 per crystal. Best I've come across so far.

Sounds like something has gone awry with your progress.
I thought the same thing at one point, was trying to farm Tourists and Squires too, but this was before the LIM Shield, by the time I needed that it was easy to find Thermosap Condensers.

The condensers are like Thermosap loot pinatas so 60 isn't all that much. They are big red crystals that glow in the dark. Once you've found one and scanned it you can see which zones have them which makes it easier. Maybe look for the white resource bar on the map that says ?? in zones until then to locate them? And use a resource radar on the top of your station wagon.

Yeah I've finished the story and even after it was all said and done Thermosap crystals seem to be the one thing holding back my crafting ability. I even finished the game with more Olympic shards then Thermosap and those are supposed to be like one of the very end game resources.

you can get hundreds in a single junction if you just go to the right biome with resource scanner.

the screen showing the junctions tells you what you can find and where.

You get LIM shield for free no?

The big red crystals everyone is talking about only appear in certain biomes in the mid zone. You'll know it's the right one because it's like red squiggles on the planning map. In the same spot where the tree is for the beginner zones.

So far you should see green tree and red tree in the outer zone. (That's the damp forest and the blistering woods biomes)

In the mid zone you should see what looks like a blue starburst and a red wavy thing.

The red wavy thing is the places where you'll find the big red crystals full of thermosap.

The midzone is split into two biomes, the scorch and the mire. You can find ThermoSap in the scorch

Wait, seriously? I've been driving around the mire almost exclusively. Well, there went my day, wasted completely.

Before reaching the mid zone, thermosap crystals can still be reliably farmed from Tourists, there is a safe way to do so. It can also be obtained by scrapping armored car parts, but it's better to actually bring them back to the garage and either repair to use them, or repair to scrap them, for higher amounts of thermosap.

Why do people keep ignoring basic logic and then pretending its the game's fault.

You are probably just driving around the mire, sap condensers can be found in the scorch regions.

When a good chunck of players struggle with a mechanic in a game then that just seems like bad game design over a bunch of incompetent players. The common denominator isn't the player it is the game.

This attitude is why modern games have 6 yellow blinking arrows pointing to a door, with an all caps objective on your HUD that says OPEN THE DOOR TO PROGRESS. PRESS A TO OPEN THE DOOR. And a giant button prompt that says A TO OPEN DOOR.

The game gives you all the information you need, if you read and use your brain to make connections. And it's much much better for it.

Thermosap (Thermo means heat) crystals are found in the SCORCH!? (Scorch is also another word for extreme heat) How could anyone ever be expected to make this giant leap of logic. Truly a 400 IQ play.

The scanner in the garage tells you exactly what resources spawn in each area if you select and scan it, bring a resource scanner on the car and you can get hundreds of (almost)any material you're looking for pretty easily
