There's the reignigtable flares, a makeshift flashlight and bio luminescent lamp and flares for late game.

I'd really recommend you get comfortable with flares to start with. it will cover like 85% of your light requirements, takes a TON less space in your pack and provides flexibility that the flashlights don't. (being able to throw / drop the flares)

don't have to go this route, but it's versatile, especially in the early game.
