Opinions on lightning rods?
I swear half the anomolies in the game are shock damage. I'm currently working towards a battery build, but am really struggling with if I should keep the Lightning Rod or not. Right now I'm aiming for:

XL roof, resource radar
LIM emitter
2 large batteries (back seat)
3 wind turbines
Amp engine

But for the last side slot, do I have side storage? Hydro generator? Do I keep the Lightning Rod? There's so much zippy zappy, even outside the outer zone...

That's just flat out untrue. Shock tourists in mid zone as well, and it negates those, minute men, etc. The ONLY things that still damage your car are towers and electric clouds. And isn't the LIM engine an absolute gas hog? I heard it's pretty useless as it gets literally half the mpg of the starting engine.
Because minute man shock tourists deal damage with “arc”, and in mid zone acid damage is more of concern.
Lim engine run 9 miles per gallon, with high road upgrade one trip usually ends with 11miles on average, so gas is not a problem, besides even you decide to stick around and drive more, there are plenty gas around.
High road upgrade? Is that the one to skip junctions?

Yeah, with that you most time drive straightly and don't need to worry about anomalies, which save some gas.

I got rid of lightning rods after my car still suffered heavy damage from electric sources and the power generated was neglible. Hydrogenerator and Mini-Turbine all the way!

I built one early on and by the end of the game I had never taken it off. For power I had 2 windmills and that was enough for me. Solar and hydro I felt were too dependant on the environment to be reliable and so many anomalies seemed to deal electric damage to every part of my car that it was invaluable to keeping me in good nic. It takes the damage so the rest of your car doesn't.

lightning rod is top tier since it makes you semi immune to all electric dmg. AND charges your battery when doing so.

more than worth considering how cheap it is and how useful it can be defense wise.

imagine using insulated armor when a single lightning rod gives 100% electric resistance by merely absorbing ALL dmg.

All damage aside from the shock towers and clouds.

The lightning rod is situational, like all other things. If you are in the first zone which is mostly electric, its good especially since some zones can have anamolies that make getting shocked basically guaranteed (electric tourists who create electric webs both on the road and forests).

For anything after that its bad.

Lightning rod in good shape + electo bunnies = Renewable Power and Watchout for Hop ons! a-cheese-mints.

I've had 3 jumpers in the trunk of my car that I've never had to use the entire game because any time my battery gets low I just park my car next to some lightning thats chaining between rods/tourists and let it chain to the lightning rod and charge my battery while I loot stuff nearby.

lightning rod protects most of the car from arcing electricity, it takes most of the damage into itself and charges the battery at the same time

I used it for a while, it was sort of fine. Then i almost got killed when lightning hit the rod as i was unpacking loot, so kinda dropped it.

These days i am running solar panel for starter junctions, wind turbine, hydro generator and the gas converter. On top radar resource and XL trunk. The side trunk was fine for a while, but it has a lot of the inconveniences of the starter backpack, plus it filled pretty quick during mid zone runs. OH, it can also get a punctured status, meaning stuff will periodically drop if you don't seal it fast. Plus, i like to carry spare tires just in case, so XL trunk for me.

The dmg types in the game vary so much idk if full electric insulation will suffice. Most deeper midzone and the deep zone runs i do i get a lot of acid dmg, and this may combine with explosive dmg from several sources.

I am currently running a mix of olympium and steel (corrosive parts and lead before that), and depending on the rng, i still sometimes get massive dmg.

But that isn't with the AMP engine, correct?

I got amp engine but haven't tried it yet. I'd have to do a lot of modding in the car, including the large battery on top etc, and right now i am still busy farming the olympium needed for LIM chips, so i kinda need storage there and resource radar yet. I will surely give it a go, i like tweaking stuff and testing all possibilities. Could have ended the game a long time ago, but first gotta test stuff.

I am the kind of driver that when their turbo engine was about to die built an XL storage just to carry an spare carburator in case it happened mid travel, i am crazy like that :D Thankfully physics and a couple other laws are lenient in Pacific Drive
