Opinions on lightning rods?
I swear half the anomolies in the game are shock damage. I'm currently working towards a battery build, but am really struggling with if I should keep the Lightning Rod or not. Right now I'm aiming for:

XL roof, resource radar
LIM emitter
2 large batteries (back seat)
3 wind turbines
Amp engine

But for the last side slot, do I have side storage? Hydro generator? Do I keep the Lightning Rod? There's so much zippy zappy, even outside the outer zone...

My favourite was the hydro generator. I removed the lighting rod.

Doesn't it reduce most shock anomoly damage or mitigate it? I think the only things I noticed doing significant damage to car parts when you have a lightning rod are shock towers (which I think is ridiculous) and the electric clouds.

I can't really get it figured out so I abandoned it.

I am not too sure about reduce or mitigate. I found that the lighting rod did not charge much and I did not like to go too close to the electrical anomalies even with an insulated car.

True. Like I said, I think it's two of them that aren't mitigated. I dunno. I don't really want to just have five wind turbines.

turbocharged engine requires at least one fuel synthesizer unless you actually enjoy driving off into the forest for every single oil drum. The hydro generator is useful as it rains a lot in a rainforest. that leaves 2 wind turbines.

So two wind, one hydro... Keep the Lightning Rod? Side storage? Is two wind and a hydro enough to counter the energy burn from the arc engine?

Honestly its a must have for me. It nullifies lightning damamge am(except from the lightning clouds i cant think of the name of)
Like you got stuck by a wiggling wreck? Go through the lightning for litterly no damamge

Strange, I had some damage done to it even with the lightning rod. Is it just that it was a tower?

Yeah for some reason shock towers and the electric clouds still damage your car.

So far, three wind turbines isn't enough to counter the horrible battery drain from the AMP engine. Lightning Rod helped a bit, but even then it's an absolute mess.

You have to be going a crazy speed just to not drain the battery, and if you hit something, one thing, and stop, your bumper/lights will take a hammering, and your bumper is basically toast. You're then losing about 1.0kw every few seconds till you're back up to full speed.

I went around the track out back the garage, as fast as I could, no lights on. Went from 100 battery to 94 just from that little loop and back to the garage pad.

I think you should use turbo engine until you are able to build LIM engine. The AMP engine makes gas useless just feels so weird, besides it consumes a LOT of power, which makes your choices of side rack limited.
About lightning rod, it only attracts electric arc, shock tower and electric clouds can damage your car directly. Lightning rod will be damaged quite quickly when attracting arcs, unless you protect it with electric proof door and plate, so it's only useful when exploring the outer zone.

That's just flat out untrue. Shock tourists in mid zone as well, and it negates those, minute men, etc. The ONLY things that still damage your car are towers and electric clouds. And isn't the LIM engine an absolute gas hog? I heard it's pretty useless as it gets literally half the mpg of the starting engine.

I used it for a while, it was sort of fine. Then i almost got killed when lightning hit the rod as i was unpacking loot, so kinda dropped it.

These days i am running solar panel for starter junctions, wind turbine, hydro generator and the gas converter. On top radar resource and XL trunk. The side trunk was fine for a while, but it has a lot of the inconveniences of the starter backpack, plus it filled pretty quick during mid zone runs. OH, it can also get a punctured status, meaning stuff will periodically drop if you don't seal it fast. Plus, i like to carry spare tires just in case, so XL trunk for me.

The dmg types in the game vary so much idk if full electric insulation will suffice. Most deeper midzone and the deep zone runs i do i get a lot of acid dmg, and this may combine with explosive dmg from several sources.

I am currently running a mix of olympium and steel (corrosive parts and lead before that), and depending on the rng, i still sometimes get massive dmg.

But that isn't with the AMP engine, correct?

Because minute man shock tourists deal damage with “arc”, and in mid zone acid damage is more of concern.
Lim engine run 9 miles per gallon, with high road upgrade one trip usually ends with 11miles on average, so gas is not a problem, besides even you decide to stick around and drive more, there are plenty gas around.
