The car
So is it weird im more attached to the car in this game then i have been to any protagonists in any game for a very long time? At risk of being weird, it just is what it says on the box. A whacky car that somehow always gets you home no matter how bad things get and asks nothing of you but to take care of it.

Its also something thats mot unobtainable, not a wealth symbol, not some hyper cool tron wannabe sci fi car. Its just a normal car that you make special via adventures.

Dont know, just something been kicking around in my brain a while that i figured id share for you folks to either enjoy, laugh at or mock as you choose that some weird dude on the internet finds a car a more intresting and unique character then any ive seen in most other games for a long while.

Maybe its just the format of the game or rose tinted childhood memories of herbie but actully mine now. Eh who knows.

Another one falls victim to the remnant influence..May they have mercy on your soul..

I feel that way too. More-so because I love station wagons and the America that once was, and the staple of its prime found in barns and fields all around the place from coast to coast, one of them being the station wagon, a prevalent and dependable kind of machine of a time I wish i experienced with my own two hands. I've always wanted one and to have a game based entirely around the idea that you limp it along as it limps you along with it makes it that much more special to me. I love old cars, and there will never be anything in this world quite as satisfying or so real and soulful as a wood paneled, V8, rear wheel drive, carbureted, bygone era machine.

Nah, I hear you man- makes me think back to a Cherokee I had, always giving me problems but always got me home. One day I was having engine problems and had to floor it to keep up on the highway for a 2 hour drive home- engine finally conked out as soon as I pulled into the driveway- limping all the way, she still got me home. Feels like the car in game is kinda like that.

TLDR- The funny quirky station wagon reminds me of an old car I loved

I'm sitting here nodding yes to everything you've said, it reminds me of old family cars - helping my dad fix ours and then later on both working on my first cars, also in the days when carmakers made it easy to replace simple things like an indicator (turn signal) bulb yourself and not have to take it to a dealer or spend way too long fiddling with inaccessible clips & silly plastic pry tools to remove the entire light cluster (looking at you, Audi!)

Definitely getting those first car vibes from the car in this game, as you said it looks nothing special except is it.. its your car.. it takes you on adventures and it gets you home safe because you look after it.

Reminds me of a review I saw that said "the car is the star" - it most certainly is and I find myself thinking about it when not playing. The car is in the garage now, it will need some love before I take it out again, but that will have to wait. The garage is safe, the car is safe, it's all that matters until the next run.

I love that it's also part of the game's lore that we're supposed to become obsessed with it. I remember just being at the garage and walking around for a final inspection before a drive and just thinking about how, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I'm actually becoming obsessed with this thing.

It feels like a great piece of heightened lore. There's also a mention from somebody else that they can't sleep while in the zone, don't even feel sleepy and that also explains why you never rest. Time carries on and you're always driving around or fixing up your car, no time to sleep. The only need you address is food and in theory you could avoid using food if you didn't need healing.

My Remnant has started flashing its headlights and honking when I walk too far away from it. I believe that it is only a matter of time before it starts itself in order to drive toward me if am not near it for any length of time.

It's like a 2-ton duckling that imprinted on me.

I think its just special that this car works without an alternator (ya know.. the thing that NORMALLY charges the battery)

It might be weird, but it's also intentional. Wouldn't say it's an average car, though. It's an alien, magic, probably sentient expression of something utterly inexplicable. It just happens to take the shape of an average car and eat gasoline and electricity.

I've got the bug too, though. Love that car. They need to do an update that lets me just stand around wiping my car with a diaper and cooing to it like a baby.

Whats funny is i actully added a station wagon to my "buy irl when money is avalible list" been wanting a second vehicle anyway. I adore my 1 ton sure.....but diesel is expensive lol and ive always liked station wagons.

But nice to know im not alone. The car is just...fun the whole concept of it.

It’s a permanent quirk ;-)

I love this game and I find driving that lil old wagon to be an absolute blast. I mighta been hooked by the remnant though as I've taken to keeping the steel panels and nice paint job. I even named it Vera. I'm tempted to go looking for one of these old wagons in real life but I can't seem to pin point the Make, Model, and Year. I think it's a late 70's or early 80's GM but I can't seem to find which one.
