You can research a flashlight after your last trip in the demo ;)

Do you have post processing at high or ultra? Dropping this setting below high seems to make everything EXTREMELY dark for me.

Try using a flare, they are for this purpose i think

I came looking to see if there was a flashlight button I missed.

I had everything maxed out as well, but also had to mess with my resolution though, I have a Odyssey Neo G9 so it runs native at 7680x2160 which was *way* too zoomed in, I had to run it in windowed mode - maybe that did it? I had everything else maxed.

I didn't think of this - I just took them for another crafting component - that said they were pretty rare in my run, I went all through the fabricator to see if they could be crafted, but didn't see them because I ran out, which made me inclined not to use them for anything but crafting.

Yeah it's a pretty dark game.

You have to get over your preservation instincts and actually use the flares the game gives you a ton of.

One change I would like to see though is it feels like parts of the game that aren't meant to be poorly lit... are. Feeling like I have to pop a flare to get a good look around the garage (after turning the power on btw) feels wrong.

I feel like the areas that are meant to be so dark you have to use a flare should remain as they are now, though I hope there'll be a flashlight to get later on. But the areas that are not meant to be totally dark should have the lighting bumped up a lot.

I also feel like the game lacks brightness and contrast in general, the dark areas are dark, the bright areas are dull. Any chance for HDR support to be patched in between now and the full release devs? :D

Fair enough, though I definitely didn't get a ton of them in my game - is it random? Maybe the RNG just didn't favor me I guess. I found 6, max.

I did find it way too dark in the garage as well though, even broad daylight was like dusk.

Whatever the case, the lighting needs some work, I think.

Also, ultrawide support, pretty please.

The brightness slider doesn't when you set post processing to low or medium, this is the bug that should be fixed. Also the game can look darker since day-night cycle still affects interiors.

The flares won't help much when you need to look into pitch darkness most of time you search interiors because they are limited / require resources to craft. It's questionable why your car has lights and you, as a character, don't have any flashlight that will work the same.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I believe this is an early game hurdle quickly padded out with vehicle upgrades and personal equipment. It may just be my settings but I didn't have trouble navigating the darkest of areas it was more of an inconvenience I could be missing loot.

sounds like you might need to change your monitor settings. Trailers weren't dark at all for me.

I see a dev has replied about researching a flashlight - I had a quick look through the research/blueprints machine after building the radio/radar thing and noticed you'd be able to build more stuff, also while in the dark trailers I thought "bet you can find/build flashlights in the full game"

Battery > switch > lamp = flashlight. They could insist you find the same voltage lamp & battery but at a guess I'd think lamps from electronics will just happen to be the right voltage - zone magic (aka game artistic licence magic) in the guise of a resistor or voltage regulator ;)

I don't know if this was a visual bug or related but at the very start of the game when you're driving in your first car, in the section when things start to get weird (I think the rockslide area), looking out the left windows is totally pitch black/dark. I literally cannot see anything as if it was the dark of night yet I can see the same parts of the hill from the front window before the line of sight passes the left.

There should be a little throwaway line about this somewhere early when Oppy tells you about the generators, because I was looking through the control keys and trying to fiddle with the brightness. lol

I experienced this same visual bug

Also, the Options menu contains 'less dark nights' as a setting.

If you can place your car in line with the door, open its light to illuminate the interior of the trailer.
