Shells in the sea?

There are shells in the sea (also shell-icons pointing at them) and i cant really figure out what to do with them..? im on day 3

You'll get different types of skipping stones when you break the ore stones each day. You can also craft or buy more. But you stand near the shore and skip stones into the shells, and you get items.

If you're new to collecting treasure from the giant sea shells, here's a tip: the more times your stone skips before reaching the sea shell, the greater your reward.

This is why the higher quality skipping stones travel shorter distances between skips. They may not travel as far as the basic skipping stone (overall distance), but you still acquire more skips in the short distance they do travel.
