Fishing is always a frustrating experience
For me, in these types of games, fishing has always been a frustrating experience. I'm the type of person who had to download an easy-fishing mod for stardew valley and STILL had to go crying to my husband to catch me the harder fishes so I could complete my fishing collection.

Even in Animal Crossing, it was frustrating, it was all about placing your fishing ball in the correct way. So there was a lot of throwing out your fishing ball, pulling it back in again, and out again, and in, and positioning yourself differently.

And the games, names which I cannot recall, where you have to spam click to reel in? No. It has always been a frustrating experience.

So I was over the moon when fishing was such a calm experience in Cozy Grove. It didn't matter if my fishing ball went behind the fish, or ON TOP of the fish! The fish would re-position itself and try to eat my bait. And when they ate the bait? Even if I didn't react right away, they didn't run away with the bait! I managed to catch all my fishes!

But then the NEW fish came..
Now I have two types of fish who will run away if I don't place my fishing ball correctly. And it's back to being a frustrating experience.

And I realize, I'm probably among the few who find this annoying. It's such a simple concept isn't it? But I keep scaring away my fish. I wish the fishing rod would show me the entire path of my fishing ball, because as simple and easy that calculation might seem to you. I keep messing it up.

Rather than reducing the difficulty for some fish, maybe fishing aids could be bought in the game somehow? Like you could buy bait to make fish attack the lure from further out or perhaps buy some kind of silencing/stealth device to not spook fish away as easily. Or is there fishing rod upgrades further into the game already?

I've thought about that too. It would allow the skilled players to still benefit from their skill, while others could make up with money/crafting. That being said & still being stuck with the initial economy on the Switch, I really don't want to see something ridiculously expensive or impossible to get for this approach.

Speaking of fishing and frustration. How about the captain's quest for 10 ******* rare fish?

I caught like 30-40 fish already, 0 rare, but 2 legendary (they don't matter, they are tooooo good to count). All the others were common/uncommon. I don't know what would be better, some fish upgrade system at the baker bear, a bit toned down quests, or pushing the RNG for the types you need to quests, but as of now i'm really truly mad at the game for forcing me to run around like an idiot and keep fishing for possibly hours.

Oof, didn't know there's a 10 rare fish quest. After the chef's one for 3 rares, I've been stockpiling them just in case. Apparently the 5 I had stashed is not enough.

How many days are you into this game? I don't think I'd mind the '10 rare fish quest' if it happens much later in the game, but within the first month is probably too soon. Maybe this is another issue that lures could fix by attracting certain fish types, but not sure how much of a pain that is to implement.

Somewhere over 25 days (had an early start for review), so there's time for you :) unfortunately i only stocked up with rare shells after the dreaded 5 rare shell mission (only 3 needed now i think), since i had too many things in my tent anyways. + storing fish without refrigeration? with bears around???

I like the idea of buying upgrades that make fishing easier.

I'd also like to see an aquarium (and musuem for non fish stuff) where you can actually display your collection (or at least your favourites!) instead of just a screen with icons you can look at when talking to the captain. I was hoping something like that would unlock the further you play, but seems like that's not the case? ;_;

Oh oof, I'm gonna start hoarding rare fish. Thanks for the heads up.

For some funky reason, I was able to catch 7 legendary fish today. Yay me! Only... aside from the one new one for my collection, I can't even afford to buy a shrubbery for what they're worth. This is whack.

just wanted to agree that fishing is frustrating.

i totally get that the diff fish styles are supposed to be for ppl who want more of a challenge but like

you are marketing this game as a COZY, CHILL, RELAXING game. so why are so many things frustrating or gated or limited like if its supposed to be relaxing, its really not. so thats where my issue lies because the game touts itself as being this chill place to relax.

so why do you need to make fishing more of a challenge, i see in this thread the devs intended to make it more of a challenge for ppl who wanted a challenge but then why are you saying this is a relaxing game for people who want to relax. make up your mind lol
